Pimp my Erg

Post by GingErger » March 30th, 2022, 7:47 am

Hi - I wanted to liven up my Erg a little and wondered what others may have done to pimp your ergs?

Except for modifications to the monitor arm to hold a phone, tablet of TV they probably do nothing else.

I was thinking more aesthetics rather than functional / features?

IMHO the best-looking accessory for an erg is a fit body perched on top of it, rowing away.... :D

Why? It's a piece of gym equipment, I don't think go-faster stripes are going to improve my rowing in any way, shape or form.

How about a little sign/sticker in your line of sight with your personal motto/mantra on it? You know, the thing that keeps you focused and motivated. Assuming you have one, that is.

Mine is simple. It's about commitment and personal accountability... making sure I don't (figuratively) slide off the back of the rail and allow the erg to become a clothes rack:

Show up.
Row.
Repeat.

I don't feel the need to make a sign, but I do keep that thought in mind especially when I'm feeling less than 100% enthusiastic about working out that day. I've got a decent streak going (for me, anyway) and don't want to break it.

There are some pictures out there on the web of someone who did a really cool paint / sticker job for some ergs that were to be used by some motocross guys. When I have some time later I'll look around to see if I can find them.

Exactly, that’s why I suggested aesthetics as opposed to added features - I’m fully aware that tarting up a rowing machine doesn’t improve performance 😂

In the summer I add a C-Breeze, which redirects the air to my face to keep me cool.

Little late...but I came across I guy on a Facebook group that has powder coated his ergs in his gyms colours and then sprayed the flywheel housing...they do look good...my model D is a blue one and I am contemplating mucking around with it just cause I can...vinyl wrap should be fairly straight forward...then as my fan housing has discoloured anyway was thinking about having a crack at spraying it...

Not sure this counts as pimping out my erg but on the flywheel's metal screen I have small Purdue Crew (my son rowed there) logo magnet along with a 3" magnetic button showing I'm in the C2 8MM Club facing me. These trinkets help motivate me from time to time. (No, I don't feel the minor air blockage impedes my performance in the least. Now, If I were erging 1:45 splits, maybe...)
