Good luck to all you guys & galls doing the March mud madness thang - your all nuts lol. Looking at some of your times for 5k and 10k you should ace this as they are mental quick times to me. Can I ask do you do this 10k in one go? My target at the minute is to get to a 10k in 60mins or less every Friday by May, currently in Mar I do 6k 7k 8k mon/wed/fri, Apr will be 7k 8k 9k.

Many do go for 10k in one go during this challenge, but many others break it up and do a combination of rows to break up the tedium of doing the same thing over and over for 25 days etc.

You could do a 5k one morning, then do a couple of 2.5km rows with a recovery period in the afternoon if you wanted to hit the 10k daily mark that way for example.

All comes down to what time you have and how you want to accomplish the daily goal really.

Until yesterday, I've been doing 10k SS in one go.

Yesterday morning, I attended the Row House 2k benchmark (matched my 2k PB) and hit about 6k in total, so I completed a 5k in the afternoon at home.

Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M
21:44.4 5,000m 2:10.4 158 842 25 148
4:21.6 1,000m 2:10.8 156 838 25 143
4:22.3 2,000m 2:11.1 155 833 25 148
4:22.1 3,000m 2:11.0 156 835 25 149
4:20.0 4,000m 2:10.0 159 848 26 151
4:18.5 5,000m 2:09.2 162 857 25 151

Going forward, I like the idea of intervals, so will likely throw in some of those (10x1k / 5x2k / 4x2.5k) along the way.

This Tuesday I plan on a 2x5k for the International Women's Day Challenge.

I'm still rowing, another 10k to the good.

It became apparent that no matter how hard I tried I couldn't row, after a 12hr shift, its just beyond me at the moment.
However I'm still going to keep trying until its mathematically impossible, and then I'm going to see how many 10ks I can manage in 31days.
Im not giving up, that would be dull, I'm simply reevaluating my capabilities at this time.

I work 10 hour days and its hard for me to get motivated. 12 hour shifts would do me in as well. My skip day is Wednesday's because I have to be at a meeting early in the morning at a construction site away from my office. Keep on rowing, remember this is for your heart, not a piece of paper so do not get upset if you don't make the 25 - 10K's. How long before your next stent is due for installation? I had 2 done with the latest in early June. Before I started rowing I checked with my cardio rehab therapist to verify my max heart rate. It turns out that her son is on the college rowing team so she is familiar with the Concept 2. I told her I was doing 30 minute rows and I haven't gotten back to her on the 50 minutes I row now :-) So far I have 6 - 10K's in and hopefully 7 before my skip day.

haha I should think you can't after a 12hr shift  it is good to have goals and something to aim for but c'mon easy there, the point is not to cause any injury or further damage. Just do your best and give it your best shot at this time and be happy you can row 10k in the first place, yur times are just dreams to me at the moment.

Nice job boatmates. Keep pressing forward, but don't overdo it.

To meet the International Women's Day Challenge and total 10k for the day, I did two 5k sessions, but started the second one about 1 minute after finishing the first.

For what it's worth, I find these kind of challenges that require (almost) every day attendance to be the toughest.
Sometimes schedules don't allow people to row every day - it's not a lack of interest or even motivation, just that life has other twists and turns.

That doesn't mean we should just give up... But nobody should ever feel bad about choosing not to row after a tiring 12-hour (or 8-hour, or even 4-hour) shift. Keep your head up and keep rowing, and look at the amazing results you are posting instead of worrying about missing a day here or there!

Got my first 5 km in early today, as part of the International Women's Day challenge. Feels weird to row so early; normally it's an "after kids are in bed" thing!

Well that's me well and truly down, covid positive, I must have been exposed over the weekend, despite changing aprons gloves and masks between patients.
So here we go snakes and ladders again, play the hand I'm dealt. I have to get to a negative state, then start building my fitness again, cancelled my dental, rescheduled for two weeks. I need to get my cardiologists permission to stop blood thinners whilst they deal with a couple of extractions before I get the last stent and another year on blood thinners, I hope it's not going to be as tight as it sounds....
You're all doing really well, it's just not my year, next year I'll be fine.

Take care Holly, and from my ongoing Covid experience, make sure that you rest and sleep if you feel like you need to and can do.

It's very unpredictable so don't base your thoughts on others experiences. Best of luck with everything

I'm so sorry you were dealt this blow Holly.

You should know that your courage and exuberance inspired me, and likely others, to attempt the Mud Season Madness 2022 Challenge.

Thank you and all the best.

Hi Holly, Sorry to hear that you picked up Covid. I hope that you have a mild case and are asymptomatic. Take it easy and heal up. There will always be rowing to do. I will miss seeing your progress reports but I am sure that you will be around. Good luck with the Cardiologist letting you off your blood thinners. I had a procedure scheduled and my Cardiologist refused to let me stop taking them so I had to cancel my procedure. When you are able, keep exercising your heart so you will be at your best when you get your next stent. Then watch your times drop :D

Well that completely sucks! Sorry that covid has derailed you this year. Next year it is!

The January challenge is a bit easier imo as you can catch up on a missed day and every stroke counts towards your target. It's also not so far away :)

Good luck.
