starting again
Re: starting again
yep... walking is taking a fair chunk of my time at the moment. we have to book into the gym with our covid requirements at the moment and the slots fill up real fast so not getting as much time there as i would like so if i cant get a slot then i go walking. looking at getting my own erg but people are paying insane prices. you can get a beat up 10 year old second hand with a PM3 for 3 or 400 dollars more than new. new are very hard to get here with wait times in excess of 6 months

Re: starting again
Plenty of rowers available here for sale all the time if your serious about getting one. The gym is simply not convenient now with Covid and their rowers never get maintained. You need your own rower even if your only half serious about doing decent meters. On mine 7 times a week at present so a gym machine is a no go.

Re: starting again
Hello Erik,
I too have started over. I had some medical problems, like you, that prevented me from rowing for an extended period. I had breast cancer (yes, men can get breast cancer) and before that I ruptured the quad tendon in my left leg from a fall. These were injuries years apart, but they affected my use of the rower. Now, I'm ok, so I appreciate your honesty with your issues. By the way, I'm 75 years old. I hope that's not too old to 'start over'. Thank you. Marvin

I missed out on one over the weekend that went for a realistic price as i panicked when i accidently put in a 90k bid and then lost in the resulting confusion. shouldnt have lost the plot as it was an auto bid but s.it happens

Ouch thats not good. glad you have got back to starting over and no 75 isnt too old... my dad is going strong at nearly 90 and helping friends with all sorts including cutting down trees because they are too old to do it them selves...

Re: starting again
so after a prolonged look around and missing out on many ergs for sale i finally got a second hand erg to call my own. model C and fully refurbed with new seat, handle, chain, etc etc it does only have a PM3 and i will be upgrading that to a PM5 at some stage soon. my question is how have you guys set yours up with ergdata, ergzone (any others) cell phone or tablet cradle , or big screen to use for row alongs?
I am moving a bit of stuff around at home to make room in one of our spare rooms to use as a man cave/ office / erg room so will set it up with the office setup at the end of the room with my multiple screens and space to put the erg so i can look at them for whatever i decide to use or just to listen to music.

Re: starting again
All I can row to is music, so I just use a phone holder that sits on the top of the monitor and ErgZone

Same for me, using ErgData with cable connection to a smartphone and dropping more or less heavy beats that match to the type of workoutDangerscouse wrote: ↑June 7th, 2022, 3:38 amAll I can row to is music, so I just use a phone holder that sits on the top of the monitor and ErgZone

Re: starting again
Recently, I've started to test myself with listening to music that I'd usually use for a long TT, but I'm using it for a SS session and keeping it contained is harder than you'd expect!
No idea if it's got any mental training benefit, but I'm quite enjoying it

Haha, yes, music can drive you into spheres you shouldn't be in and it's hard to withstand leaving the desired zoneDangerscouse wrote: ↑June 7th, 2022, 7:27 amRecently, I've started to test myself with listening to music that I'd usually use for a long TT, but I'm using it for a SS session and keeping it contained is harder than you'd expect!

Also try audiobooks.
Libraries have tons of audiobooks you can check out at home, with auto return so there's never a fine.
If you can get lost hearing a book read then a long steady state goes bye in no time at all.

Re: starting again
i will most likely use music and im a 80s rock/hard rock kinda guy. will probably use youtube for a bit of visual distraction as well.
good news is my Erg is arriving tomorrow. and ive ordered a PM5 which should be here in the next day or so as well. will spend tonight finishing clearing out the room to use it in. weather here is absolute rubbish at the moment and it will be good top be able to do something other than walking in the rain and wind in the middle of winter
