Mud season madness 22

Post by Holly62 » February 19th, 2022, 5:08 pm

Well I'm gearing up for it, as my first personal challenge to my abilities. I intend to do 10k for the twenty five days, in March, leaving me six days to bitch out on...
However I do feel up to this, and pending a thumbs up from my cardiologist, and my physioterrorist Brian, I'm mission on.
I've been doing 10k daily for the last few days and I need this.
πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘

As you were gentlemen.

Anyone else fancy it this year πŸ˜‚

Good luck with it. Take it slowly as 25 10ks is a huge challenge if you overcook it early on.

Good luck Holly,

I'm not doing it this year (going away for a few days) but have a couple of times.

So that it doesn't become a grind, are you able to consider some intervals or variable rate work? The intervals don't have to be redline (I assume this would be frowned upon by your specialist) but can still be a variation on your steady pace. My favourite is to do 5x2k with each 2k done as 1k, 500m, 250m and 250m at steadily increasing pace. Say your steady state is done at 2:40, then you could do 1k at 2:41, 500m at 2:40, 250m at 2:39 and 250m at 2:38. Or something to that effect.
th
Another approach might be to change pace every 500m. So instead of 2:40 flat, you do 500m at 2:43 and then 500m at 2:37. Then back to 2:43, 2:37 again, and so on.

You'll get quite the feeling of achievement. IMO, this is harder in some ways than the 30 hours in the month January challenge, because you can't catch up. Once a day's gone, it's gone.
51 HWT
PBs:
Rower 1'=329m; 500m=1:34.0; 1k=3:25:1; 2k=7:16.5; 5k=19:44; 6k=23:24; 30'=7582m; 10k=40.28; 60'=14621m; HM=1:27:46
SkiErg 1'=309m; 500m=1:40.3; 1k=3:35.3; 2k=7:35.5; 5k=20:18; 6k=24:35; 30'=7239m; 10k=42:09; 60'=14209m; HM=1:32:24

Thank you for the advice, out of the 31 days I have twelve, twelve hour day shifts, where I have a choice of rowing before I start work or rowing when I've finished, either way, success or failure will depend on my ability to tough it out on work days..

Eighteen days will be rest days, which I absolutely must row if I'm to stand any chance of being there at the end...

I did a half marathon today, and yes you're perfectly right I need to keep my heart rate below 130, and no where near my red line of 160.which would be fool Hardy to push bearing in mind I'm only six weeks away from my last stent work.

I have a nice steady pace, that gets me through the 10k, stroke rate 123 a minute, drag 125,inhale on my leg push start, exhale slowly, heart rate stays at 120/126, BP, 119/80

Any chance you could break some of your days up into two 5k pieces?

I have no problem rowing HM or 10k once or twice a week, but when asked to complete these distances 5 days a week, they become quite tedious and daunting. Perhaps boredom is my problem. Yet, I can easily rip off 5k any time of day even multiple times per day.

Mud madness comes in two flavours, 5k and 10k a day for 25 days in March.

Im going for the 10k out of choice..

Because its about an hour, and 31 days of 10k will get me in the best possible shape for my last stent πŸ‘πŸ˜Š

What I'm struggling to find is a training partner and some good motivational music to row along to.

I'm doing the 10k as well and will be a training partner.

I listen to all kinds of music. Today, I listened to this during an hour row with HR cap of 149 (70% of HRR).

Good luck with this challenge!

I've waffled between trying the 5 and 10k challenge. I'm confident in the lower level, but just from a time perspective worry about committing to that many 10k days - and that's not even thinking about the physical effort involved. I guess aiming high and seeing how things go is the easiest way to proceed?

I may join, but will be out of town skiing the entire first week of march. If I can find a Rowerg while away, I could get some 10k sessions in after my days of skiing.

That's brilliant, it's a mission for us all. The way I look at it, if I manage 10k for a couple of weeks, I can always drop back and complete the 5k,

Im also signed up for the world team challenge which is 15th March to 15th of April so whatever happens I have six weeks of 5k to 10k days.

Im going to start posting on this thread after each day's row with my time..
On work days that's early morning or late evening, obviously I plan to row every day, in case I need to rest towards the end of the month πŸ˜‚.

Six weeks of 10k a day will get us all in awesome shape regardless πŸ‘πŸ˜Š

Come on Edward, stop procrastinating and commit to something for yourself.

This challenge is open to everyone with a concept 2 Rower, a shared experience of pain and suffering, with a real achievement attached to it πŸ˜‚
