The dock was covered with a thin coat of ice and I was afraid I was going to slip while carrying the shell to the water. I was wearing two thin layers on my legs, two thin wool jerseys, a cap and homemade pogies. I was dressed just right for the conditions I thought. I was happily rowing along, concentrating on keeping the technique as good as I could. Just then, an MSU woman varsity rower flew past me. She was wearing shorts and a tank top. Yikes! I'm such a wimp.

Byron

Perhaps a new thread for this topic?

Or just YKIHBABWW (You Know It Has Been A Bad Workout When)

All-in-one only (and maybe a tech top if it is way cold). Seems to suit me fine. (but i do have very hairy legs - Helps a lot, and saves me money on kit )

Yes, I could dress lightly when doing cross country ski racing. Unfortunately I don't have the technical skills to row all out yet. It's coming along, but not yet. Anyway, I thought of an answer to the original question.

You know it's been a good workout when: You go upstairs on your hands and knees instead of walking after doing a marathon on the C2. ( I wasn't sure I could keep my balance.)

Byron

YKIHBAGWW

... when you finish a 10K S10MPS in a new PB and the guy next to you (who has just taken 12 minutes to row 2K) says, "You could row better if you put your feet in the straps you know"

(Or catch the shirt you toss at them)
- During the final 1k, it's all you can do to keep from slacking on technique, but you refocus and take the best strokes of the entire piece.

YKIBAGWW...

you don't remember that last 500 m of the piece you put so much into it...

YKIBAGWW...

you can't see straight for the next 10 minutes...

YKIBAGWW...

driving home from the gym is dangerous because you can't gauge how hard you are pushing the gas or brakes...

When I first go afloat in spring,
And the erg has kept me fit,
When I shove off from the stage
With water under the sculls.
When the hull sings and I'm well warmed up,
When I annoy the fishermen and
Tangle the sculls in their lines.
When I can scull round the skiers
Who've just fallen in,
When I'm faster than the sailors,
And upwind with it.
When I get ashore by standing
Up and out, without falling in,
Already soaked in sweat.

Come to think of it, there's no such thing as a bad w/o, something always goes well.
