Thanks for that breakdown, meerkats! I’ll be there for ‘22, for sure. I’m not big on posting here much, but I do enjoy hanging out and feeling part of something. It definitely helps with motivation for what for me is a solitary sport/hobby. So thanks, everyone, and happy new year!

I too enjoy seeing stats so keep them coming. As Jon says, it helps with the motivation. I want to be on the "complete all 12 challenges" list again in 2022 - so I made sure I did the January one right away. I have been away from home for two weeks with no access to the erg so it's not my best time but it is a time anyway. I will aim to improve it through the month. I always like doing the CTC at the beginning of the month as you never know what life is going to hand you during the rest of the month.
When I got back home, my logbook had a big red message telling me that I hadn't joined the January Team Challenge yet - so I have signed up for that as well. I encourage everyone to sign up to grow our meters.
Happy New Year folks!

Re: Forum Flyers
Good strategy. There have been a few times in past years that I figured on doing a CTC later in a month when I planned to be better prepared, only to come up with an injury that prevented me from doing one at all. So now I try to do one as early as possible in the month, then if I can do a better one later, fine. But if not, at least I contributed a Bum On Seat and hopefully helped to float a boat that might have otherwise been stuck on the dock.AnnaRaeGreen wrote: ↑January 3rd, 2022, 8:30 pmI always like doing the CTC at the beginning of the month as you never know what life is going to hand you during the rest of the month.

For Chris Whale: Is the Carole McNally Memorial challenge not counted for the purpose of determining Top Hundred on participation?

Re: Forum Flyers
If anyone fancies a bit of competition. Scottish Rowing are running a Virtual Indoor Rowing Championship on 22nd January.
It’s open to anyone anywhere in the world, no need to be in Scotland or be a member of a Scottish club. As well as lots of individual events (2k/500m/100m) at different age categories and Team events they are also offering events for Ski erg. More info available on the event website http://www.scotchamps.org/index.php/ind ... mpionships
Entries close on 14th January.
Me and brother are going to enter, might even persuade the kids. Worked really well last year

Re: Forum Flyers
Hi, Chris (or are you David W.? can't find Chris in SRIC entry list). Seems i'm in (heil to my shrinken balls )
Not too excited to compete in LWM 55-59 this year as all other guys (5) in my category seems to be sub 7 min ergers, most of them around 6:50, including former World & European Champ, my PB been 7:09.3. Sadly in my last couple of prep/test session I performed poorly, hopely things are better today and i can get a small PB. Not sure how realistic that is..Last year did 7:11.1 in same competion (LWM 50-54 cat.) and finished 2nd out of 4 finishers.
Good luck to you and the whole family!

Wishing your family and Harry a belated good luck today in the SIRC. I just did the time change math and I guess it is likely over for the day (but I could be wrong). Hope it went well!

Way to go! I see that Boat I is now flying along with 85 points. We now have four boats floating in the CTC, with a 5th boat waiting on the dock for another female rower.
I am going to have another try at it tomorrow. If nothing else, it will give the team another 6000 m for the January Team Challenge One more weekend for that as well. AS a team, we are close to 9 million metres rowed!
Happy last weekend of January - and for those of you on the eastern seaboard of North America, you may as well just stay inside on the erg with that winter storm outside.

Re: Forum Flyers
Anna Rae & Cris, thanks, did not have a superb day on SRIC. Was hoping a little better than 7:08.9 but that was PB by 0.4s. More rece anxiety than last year and legs felt jelly in warmup. One false start (not by me) did not help with that. Was hoping to see lots of 1:46s from early on but was more like 1:47 and 1:48s. Just didn't feel as good as last year and actually had very negative thoughts (of giving up) before halfway. Somehow managed to get through that and wasn't actually fading but didn't have strength/fitness to go any faster and couldn't produce much of a sprint in the end. Splits were 01:47.9 01:47.6 01:47.4 01:46.0 (29.2 spm)
I don't know how i managed to read the entry list all wrong as all the other "lightweights" i was referring earlier were competing in Men's Open 55-59 group and i was the only lightweight in that age group
So, there was no real competition and my PM5 was only showing my own stats and not those of who are just in front of and behind you. During the race i thought this was due to some technical issues and figured the real cause long after the race. (Yes, i am a bit slow and not just on erg, it seems )
David was competing at the same time, saw his virtual boat there before the start, but during the race I was mainly focusing on my stats on PM5, so did not see how David (or any other guys) were doing during the race. I had that live Youtube stream of the race open during the race on my tablet but there was about 4-5 minutes lag in stream so i was actually almost finished my race when the stream was showing boats just starting. Watched my own and some other race afterwards on Youtube and David seemed to have excellent sprint in the last 250 meters, i didn't, and TBH actually hurt a bit to see his boat pass mine at just about 100m to go

Excellent splits, negative all the way, but not because you were slacking at the start. Great mental toughness to hang in when it you seriously thought of giving up. Amazing how one can plow through that feeling and produce such good splits when it feels so darn hard. Well done!

Re: Forum Flyers
Hello! I just joined the Forum Flyers for the CTC, and thought I'd take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Elizabeth. I enjoy a variety of athletic pursuits, including running, strength training, and backpacking. I bought a Concept2 for some cross-training options about a year ago, and really started using it as my primary form of exercise following a running injury in the fall. I've been loving it. I've been loosely following Pete's Plan in the wee hours of the morning. I started participating in virtual 2ks in January, and am talking with a local club about joining their Learn to Row program this spring.
I'm not typically very active online, but I am good for meters in team challenges, as well as trying my best for timed pieces. I just logged 7801m for the CTC (done Saturday) and rowed a 18:46.9 5k today for the International Women's Day Challenge.
Anyway, I look forward to rowing with all of you!
