Climate is definitely a huge influence on HR. If I don't have a fan trained on me my heart rate can easily be over 10 bpm higher than normal. That also manifests itself in feeling rather more uncomfortable than normal.ukaserex wrote: ↑January 19th, 2022, 9:51 pmOP,
I think you're over-thinking it. Some of the guys in here are genetic anomalies, and have been rowing for decades. Their resting heart rates may be in the high 30's or low 40's. So, a UT1 HR of 125 for them isn't out of the question. It all depends.
Make sure your form is good, and just enjoy the row.
You can sweat HR training if you like, but it may be helpful to identify your goals. Remember it's a bit of a pyramid. Some days easy, some days hard. A lot depends on your diet, sleep and other external factors, like climate.

The free spirits calculator worked fine for me, used it for years.
Things change however, you get older and your training changes and if you have been using a HR strap for a decade you begin to use the graphs in the Concept 2 online logbook for the analysis of the row.
The upward slope or "Drift" is an indication of fitness at that pace. I look at the average HR for the rows but it doesn't tell the whole story with just a number. As the years go by you just gain more experience but you just row slower.
Did a few interesting 2K rows yesterday at 18spm and the HR just matched the effort and flatlined.

Temperature and humidity have a big effect on performance so I log these in the comments for each row.
