Data Analysis of Performance Measured by Erg
Hi,
I have just started rowing and I am rowing to a set HR for 10km.
I am following a principle outlined by Phil Maffetone.
I wonder what software people are using to analyse their performance - are there any templates for tableau to show performance over time ?
I think my heart rate is improving for a given output however my results are a little bit scattered and id like to analyse the trend.

IMO Concept'2's online logbook does 80% of what anyone would need when it comes to detailed progress tracking. You can even download it as a .csv file to visualize the data your own way. Other software that you might be able to use depends on your PM model and whether you're an Apple user. I use an Excel list where I put in a lot of data I have, about 20 columns, about half of them automatically calculated by the data I put in. For me this helps a lot to see progress. grin, got me interested. Can you post the column headers here? Very interested in what you decided to track (example, i don't track RPE, probably should. I use a single line in excel showing time, distance, rating and power, which is WHAT I did.I have just started rowing and I am rowing to a set HR for 10km.

To see HOW I did it, I use Watts/Rating, the Work done in each stroke. This ratio is in Watt-minutes; most I believe, work in the range 6 to 12, as to style, age and size. I'm 6 to 7. Work is length x handle force so to some extent this is a Quality index.
This index clearly encourages the use of length and strength, which is what rowing is all about. Another Q index might be meters per stroke, seeing that boats are supposed to go somewhere. 10m was once considered a baseline.
Adding max HR and Average lets me see ratios such as Watts/Range in use; but a lot of data is needed to make sense of it, and it won't tell you how to row.
08-1940, 183cm, 83kg.

Horses for courses and what not. Clearly, some individuals will really benefit from digging into the minutiea, noticing subtle trends, and iterating accordingly. For others tho (eg. me) there is a strong susceptibility to "missing the forest for the trees" when I go deep on data.
I have no position on what anybody else ought to do. I just wouldn't be confident that what you're presently doing isn't already optimal for you!
