Seat recommendations for BikeErg

Post by bswindle71 » December 14th, 2021, 3:33 pm

I just started using the Bike Erg. The seat that came with it is very uncomfortable especially after a 20 or 30 min workout. Does anyone have recommendations for a seat that is comfortable and wider that I can use instead?

I've used and worn out three different bicycle seats on the C2 bike that I've had for about 25 years, so they were almost worn out anyway. Last January I got a Cobb Randee saddle from Ebay for $40 and have been using it since then. The Randee is flatter then most other bicycle saddles and commonly used for riding long distances on the roads. I also cut about an 1/8 inch off the end of the bolt with a hack saw so changing the seats is easier.

Go to a bike shop and get fitted for the correct sized seat that matches your sit bones.

Some of additional thoughts:
  • Spend some time getting a good fit. There's a lot of info on the web regarding seat height, seat setback and reach that applies.
  • Make sure you're wearing decent bike shorts with a good chamois.
  • Spend some time pedaling out of the saddle. I can ride 4+ hrs outside on my road bike, but 1hr inside on the BikeErg without getting out of the saddle every 10-15min is brutal. You do a lot more moving around on the saddle outside...not so much indoors. Even as few as 5-10 pedal strokes off the seat helps. It will feel awkward because there is no left/right rocking motion that you get outdoors when off the seat (unless you have the BikeErg on a rocker plate) and it's harder on your knees...but it does really help with seat discomfort.
