Been struggling with motivation after the 1k but had a crack at the 1' on the skierg today.

Unusual warm up...
Front squats. 60kg 5x5

1:00.0 309m 1:37.0 382 1616 65
0:15.0 78m 1:36.1 394 1654 72
0:30.0 80m 1:33.7 425 1761 64
0:45.0 77m 1:37.4 379 1603 64
1:00.0 74m 1:41.3 336 1457 60

Classic fly and die. Saw projected distances of 327 (never going to happen), 323 and then 318 come and go and it was a bit of a battle to get any power into my arms from about 40 seconds.

Happy with this and hopefully mojo now regained.
If you think you've regained your mojo, then you have. This is a great result Max, well done mate. F&D is the only way to go.

Well done Alex. Last 1k shows that you've definitely got a bit more in you if/when you go all out.
Cheers Max 👊

Did my first career timed 2k this morning... 7:44.2. The only thing I'm bummed about is I didn't correctly set the date on my machine so it is logged as February 9th, whoops! Looking forward to seeing what I can do in the next few months. Got a concept 2 rower with my fitness reimbursement on a nice discount (saved $300) and plan to use it to cross train for jiu jitsu.

Good work - the pacing was bit "off" but you know you can do better especially with the faster last 1K. Next try start out slower (maybe 2:05) and hold it and possibly go faster at the end.
My pacing, technique, pretty much everything is a mess - only discovered this forum today and already learnt I should knock resistance down from 7.5 (and had already noticed I should get more power out doing fewer/harder strokes just from stats after a few weeks)

Personally seems to work mentally better for me if I start hard and then slack off a bit - but today I dropped back down to a 5k from daily (occasionally leisurely) 10k I've been doing for the last few weeks and suddenly realized I'd got something left in the tank at the end - and then realized I'd cruised past my previous 'painful 5k' I'd been doing when I first bought the rower.

Important thing to me wasn't so much the the 'PB', it's just the first 'unequivocal improvement' (way better time, with less pain, without really trying) - a lovely surprise.

I know it sounds dumb - but just feels great to know that any idiot can get on their erg, row however they like on their erg - and if you stick with it, you'll get better/fitter.

(@KeithT - and I forgot to mention, I'm loving the fact this community exists and you replied. I bought the erg so I could just sort myself out in a bare room with just a fan and a podcast, but when it goes well, it's lovely to get that bit of external encouragement)
The forum is great - I was new to it at one time and looking for advice and thoughts - years later I still get advice and share my advice and knowledge and I love seeing people improve. It also allows you to share feelings and experiences unique to ERGers.

After bit of advice on my 5k PB (slow down, pull harder/longer), got a new 10k

Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M
42:46.7 10,000m 2:08.3 166 869 23 142
8:25.5 2,000m 2:06.3 173 896 22 138
8:38.3 4,000m 2:09.5 161 853 22 141
8:38.7 6,000m 2:09.6 161 852 22 142
8:36.5 8,000m 2:09.1 163 859 23 144
8:27.7 10,000m 2:06.9 171 889 24 148

Not particularly impressive - but I'm 300# and only a month into a half into this exercise/ergo malarky.

Not quite sure how the rankings work, but I seem to have got into the top half of 'everybody' - next goal, top half of men of my middle-age.
Solid work - keep it going.

First PB for a while. Was feeling ‘comfortable’ at 1:45 pace for 2-3K pieces so thought I’d have a crack at a sub 17:30 5k. And it worked - 9 secs off previous PB.
