Help Mara training: sore bum, glute and nerve issues

Post by Hangar18 » November 5th, 2021, 11:12 pm

Hi All, training for my first Mara and have gravitated from using a folder towel for cushioning to the C2 seat pad but still get sore glutes, pins and needles in the feet and nerve pain in left outside shin after 25kms and cannot progress beyond this. Has anyone else had similar issues with long distance and if so can you offer me any advice?

Do a search of topic titles for "glute" and you'll find a few threads.

Do the same thing for "seat" and you'll find a lot more, some of which are related to seat comfort.

Good Luck

I am lucky as I don't get a sore butt, more or less, at any distance, but getting nerve issues and pins and needles doesn't sound good, as I can't think of why that would happen, unless you're tying your shoelaces too tight?

Good luck with it all

Ro, row, row! The more you do (with adequate rests), the more your body will adapt. It takes time, be patient and have a good plan and reasonable timeframe.

... and play a little bit with the stretcher hight, catch-position and softness of the cushioning.

... for example, my left leg liked to fall asleep. In the end, the stretcher was set too low for the longer sessions (20k +) and the seat cushion was a little too soft (I don´t need it for sitting-reasons - more to avoid a sorenes in the coccyx-area ...). So I raised my feet one notch (annoyed at my affluent belly) and closed the holes in the seat cushion with pieces of an old iso-mat. it worked pretty well. in perspective, I'm now working on my hamstring flexibility (and my affluent belly)....
