After 6 months and you stop improving you get bored very easily.

I went through the music stage but it was not enough. I then discovered RowPro and it has kept me going for over 10 years on the Erg but recently even that is beginning to finally wear off. Currently I'm planning to also do a bit of Zwift for the longer rows as well as RowPro for some shorter stuff like the 5000m twice a week.

You pretty much need to keep evolving to stay motivated.
I went to Row pro site . Looks like you hook up to PM 5 via usb cable from computer is that right ? What kept you from not getting bored for over 10 years?
I see it has more stats then ERG data and Guy rowing on water that you can change different angles .I guess that matches you rowing on indoor rower Does it give you different workout sessions? I see there is try period before you have to pay but need to know how to hook up .
Thank You

Yes, USB cable from your PM5 to your computer. Then run RowPro.

I love RowPro. Lots of fun to row with others online. Sadly, very few people use the app. Most days I log on and there are no rows for me to join.

Work on something specific, training for a specific goal helps. Work on technique. You could look up videos on you tube for different drills and workouts and follow along.

As Mark (Cyclist2) said above, I don't get bored because I'm concentrating on my pace on every stroke. I have to, because if I don't my body slacks off - if I didn't keep cracking the whip I'd probably end up at a 2:30 pace.

That means that erging isn't "fun," but it sure isn't boring either. I'm resigned to that and I'm willing to put in the time without feeling like my brain is going to turn to mush (which is what happens to me if I try to ride a bike inside).
Nothing wrong with a 2:30 pace! :D

Re boredom: different strokes float different boats. For me its goal setting and training plans. Music, well i use Spotify playlists, then dont really listen to them apart form odd songs, odd moments.

As others have said, if i don't concentrate on HR/SR/Pace then i find i 'wobble' about all over the place, which is not ideal for my goals.

Should be able to find an option that keep you Erging for years.

What you see is Ergs constantly coming up for sale with loads of people on the watchlist for it because they used it for 6 months and then it turned into an expensive clothes drying rack unless you discover what works for you long term.

Thanks Carl after many years of training I keep it at a level that keeps bringing me back for more. Hard to get bored because every time you get on as a beginner you seem to improve a little . With so many different options and routines also hard to get bored . I just wish I started this many years ago instead of weight lifting my joints would thank me .I am in it for heath reasons not really for any competitions . Just keep in good shape heart ,mental and muscle . I just picked up a used concept 2 model D at an estate sale very cheap. Right after I purchased a new concept 2 ERG from Rogue .One for the wife . Was not the plan but price was right .

“Embrace the boredom” don’t think about it or worry about it, it’s part of it. If I’m doing easy 1.5 hour plus rows/ rides I’ll watch a match on the TV, I now try to do my longest rows when I’d previously have been sat on the sofa watching the footie, makes me feel doubly smug, exercise and good sport 👍

If music is your thing, then create a long playlist (i mean very long) of your favourite songs and put the playlist on shuffle. I currently have playlist A and playlist B for the holiday challenge; each of which is approx 600 songs and many are favourites that i can sing along to.

A is for the even challenge days and B for the odd ones. Once the song has played, i'll remove it from the playlist (unless it's a really big favourite) so there are few repeat plays at a later fate.

And then i sing along loudly (and breathing permitting). props to my extremely tolerant neighbours !

Additional to the music, i like to have something on the TV to watch (anything helps, but natural history documentaries & oceanic stuff and game playthroughs from Youtube are all good for me).

And finally, i also like to have a target distance for the piece scribbled onto an A4 piece of paper and visible at all times which i find helps me maintain focus and motivation
