I'm ready to start rowing and have found a local Model D with a PM5 for under $775. It looks like it has been used very little but I'd like to ask the owner to show me the screen that Renegade shared with you all earlier this summer (
viewtopic.php?f=10&t=198790) that lists the total meters rowed, average meters per workout, etc. What buttons--and in what order--would the owner have to press to get on to that screen?
Thank you.

I've split your topic, please don't bump ancient threads.
Main menu >> Memory >> Summary
The one in the photo has never been used hard (average pace 2:14 is slow and 600000 meters is three months of regular rowing for some folks). It's been used as a cloths horse. So as long as it feels OK and the chain is clean (and has some oil on it) then go and bite the seller's hand off. You're getting a bargain (compared to USD$900 + S&H for a new one).
Beware that the PM5 can be replaced. Beware that the PM5 can be "factory reset".

As Dougie notes, meter total is really meter total recorded by the particular monitor currently attached to the machine. I got my model D with PM3 in 2014 for 700USD. My current logged meter total is 18 million+ but only 5.6 million of that total was recorded on my currently installed PM5. The balance was recorded on the PM3 and a replacement PM4 and on various gym machine monitors. They get erased and they get replaced.
This need not cause anxiety about the remaining service life of the C2 rower mechanism. They are a lot tougher and more resilient than you might think. A more useful but indirect appraisal of probable condition involves placing your prospect in the chronology of model revisions and versions available @ Concept2. To do so, you need the serial# of the machine in question. Obviously the older the machine, the greater the chance of high hours of use as well as occasions of abuse or inattention to deterioration in storage. I would not buy a model D produced before 2006 because I have knowledge of deficiencies eliminated in later versions. I would buy an early model D before I would spend time vetting a machine DXd from a public gyms. I rate your chance of getting a serviceable machine without knowing everything there is to know at 90%+.

I have a new concept 2 but I purchased an old original model D with pm 3 .Just could not resist buy . Could not get total meters some one reset or older pm 3 did not record . Rower might have come from gym not sure . I just replace handle because grip was messed up and put pm 5 with device holder .(The Pm 3 still worked good just no Bluetooth ) Loosened up and oiled seat rollers I went over whole machine oiled ever thing . Tightened all screws ,Machine like new now . Not much you cannot replace or update should last a lifetime really .A Machine not being used and not stored properly a lot worse than being used with a lot meters on it . In my case I will wear out way before machines .I will pass down to my kids or grand kids.

You probably know already, but a new rowerg direct from C2 is only $900 and arrives in a week or two. You'd need to add another another $100 or $200 taxes and shipping so the used rowerg is maybe $300 cheaper.

Thank you, Tenor, electric start, jackrabit, and Citroen, for your guidance. I feel like I have a much better understanding of what I'm looking for now, and am looking forward to making a purchase. (Sorry for bumping the old thread. I meant only to attach it.)
