My head is minced at the moment with far too much work stress, so I almost didn't do anything at all, as I was full of excuses.

I backed off fairly early on as it didn't feel right, and as I didn't know what my 30 mins PB was, I was rowing in blissful ignorance. Happy with the result, but I know I can do quite a bit more on a better day

Still not feeling 100%, and work and life have been getting in the way of training. I've also been on my programme for nearly 3 months now, and as a regular sufferer from training ADD, I needed something to improve morale and get the motivation going again.

I'm nowhere near PB form and fitness on the rower, but as I'd never actually completed a 6k TT on the SkiErg, I dialled that in. (I was going to talk about the 6k being an ugly-stepchild and low-hanging fruit, which is quite an amusing mixed metaphor :))

I found this pretty tough today, and was delighted and relieved to get to the end. I'll have to work a bit harder to get any more PBs, but at least this one's ticked off for now.

Excellent new PB Nick....congrats.

I'm seeking that sub 6:50 too and you no doubt have it in you by the looks of things. Same age but I'm just a skinny git
thank you! progress has slowed a little in the past two months but good to be getting faster still!

crazy to me how our 1k and 2k times are very similar but your 5k just blows mine out of the water - shows where I need to improve I guess?
I'm still not sure how I managed that 5k! :D   ......one of those days it all came together. Not been under 18:00 since

Gotta love those accidental PBs. Lovely work. This is so close to 8500m that you'll have to have another crack at this very soon, but I suspect that you could go a lot further still.

New 2K PB at 6:27.8

As promised, I tested my 2K today and I got a PB by 1.6 seconds. I am happy to get a PB especially since my 2K time hadn't changed much from 2019, it was 6:29.9 in March of 2019, and 6:29.4 in March of 2020 and then today - I have only tested it like a couple times other than these (the 6:29s PBs were at comps). So, while happy, I feel like I was in better position to be even lower back in March when I got my 1K PB and was feeling good. I keep battling Father Time but at times I worry improvements may come to an end.

When done I was in as bad as shape as I have ever been - completely crushed - absolute max effort. One last note - my SPM was higher than ever for a 2K TT, interestingly the fastest split the SPM was a little lower but I am usually right at 30 SPM for a 2K.

Outstanding Keith,
1.6s is heaps to take off what was already a very good PB.

32spm sounds about right for a 2k - you always rate relatively low, so I can't see you suddenly doing 36 any time soon.

There's nothing like rolling on the floor trying to quell the pain in your legs after an all-out session, but at least you know that you had nothing left in the tank.
Thanks Max - the 1.6 seconds was good considering it didnt move much at all the 2 years before. Still fell like I could have done better in the spring but who knows. In doing lots of TTs in rowing and crazy CF workouts in the past 5 years I know the pain of all out efforts but this one was extra spicy and still have some impact today - so easy row today and off Friday.

The row today went very close to plan. The idea was to try and average 1:37 pace and go out with some hard pulls and then settle on 1:38 thru about 800m then move to 1:36/1:37 for next 800 and then see what I had left - I was hurting early on (more than expected) but was able to stick to plan well until 400m to go when I thought I could go faster and even if I faded I would still PB - well, I did go faster for a few strokes but then I started feeling like I was freezing up and it turned out to be a hang on the best I could effort instead of a sprint in the end - the last 400m was like 1:33, 1:37, 1:39, 1:40. I should have just stayed steady where I was until 200 or 100 to go like I usually do. When done I was in as bad as shape as I have ever been - completely crushed - absolute max effort. One last note - my SPM was higher than ever for a 2K TT, interestingly the fastest split the SPM was a little lower but I am usually right at 30 SPM for a 2K.

Excellent Stu! A PB without a plan and with less than normal focus with work stress. Obviously 8500 is there but perhaps even 8600. This shows the shape you are in.

First, guilty on any charges of low-hanging fruit.

What was meant to be a warm up and then the first of 2 x 20 UT1 turned into a 10k.

Not sure what the 10k time was, but it was faster than 38:05.

This is a confidence builder for really going after 10k in two or three weeks Before school starts back up on August 1, I'll go for 2, 5, and 10 to get a good power curve.

Time/Mtrs/Pace/SPM
6:27.8/2000/1:36.9/32

1:17.6/400/1:37.0/33
1:18.2/800/1:37.7/32
1:17.2/1200/1:36.5/33
1:17.0/1600/1:36.2/29
1:17.9/2000/1:37.3/32
Congrats! :D pacing says it all. Maybe you are not in your absolute best form anymore? But nomatter, strong row, strong season, well done B)

Gotta love those accidental PBs. Lovely work. This is so close to 8500m that you'll have to have another crack at this very soon, but I suspect that you could go a lot further still.

Excellent Stu! A PB without a plan and with less than normal focus with work stress. Obviously 8500 is there but perhaps even 8600. This shows the shape you are in.
Thanks fellas. I think that 8550m is my next target, but I usually back off in the summer as it gets too hot in my erg room, even at 6am.
