Re: Forum Flyers
Minus 2 and not much warmer in the garage. I did do a decent warm up but not ready for the cold with intensity. Plus it was 7.30am. Will do again on Sunday later in the day after the sun has been out for a while. I did the 2000 at 20spm first. Might do the 5000 first next time.

Opposite, too hot a muggy, 7 mins seemed a long time as well. Likewise might do it the other way around, but also repeat the 2k first.allanhallberg wrote: ↑July 2nd, 2021, 3:42 amMinus 2 and not much warmer in the garage. Re: Forum Flyers
Too hot here as well - although not as bad as at the centre of the heat dome (only 39 C - not 46 C). Because of the heat, my outdoor afternoon bike ride got moved to first thing in the morning and the indoor erg (in the air conditioned basement) got moved from the morning to the middle of the morning. I must be opposite to Allan, I seem to have more energy for the erg first thing in the morning than in the afternoon.meerkats wrote: ↑July 2nd, 2021, 6:04 amOpposite, too hot a muggy, 7 mins seemed a long time as well. Had a try at this month's CTC anyway - with the 5000 m first at 20 spm - didn't seem to have much in the tank for the 2 k piece despite the 7 minutes of rest. Hope to try again later in the month.

Did the CTC on Saturday.
3k wu
2000m @1:59.5 r20 then 5000m @1:58.2 r26
1.5k cd
It was a good challenge and decent workout for me; first interval was solid but not exhausting, second interval started to bite hard.
I think if I tried it in the other order I would struggle big-time with the r20 interval.
Anyhow, I will give it another go or two, may prove to be a 'fun' training marker.
Total of 37km for July with 1 rest-day.

Re: Forum Flyers
Took on the CTC this morning because in the past I've sometimes found that if I wait until later in the month when I might be in a better state of fitness something unforseen crops up and I miss it altogether. Better a slow score than no score. Also I figured I'd get Boat 1 off the dock, but when I entered it I discovered that Will had beat me to it ( and with a better score than mine).
I used the 5K @ 20spm as a long warmup then did the 2K as hard as I could go @ 23spm. Most likely I can do better and may give it another try and maybe do a proper warmup and try the 2K @ 20spm and the 5K faster.

Re: Forum Flyers
Soooo does anyone have advice on which interval would be better for the 20 spm and what order maybe depending on if you’re an endurance person or a sprinter? My instinct would be all out 2km first and then 20 spm for the 5km but not sure if that’s really best. Ideally I would want to try all the combinations but pretty sure it’s going to be another phone-it-in-at-the-last-minute month, maybe even more so.

Re: Forum Flyers
I like Ockerby’s sequence. Assuming that rate restriction may inflate overall elapsed time for most, seems logical to limit that foreseeable effect by choosing free rate for the long bit and avoiding protracted exposure to r20. BICBW(rong). Thoughts?

Re: Forum Flyers
I'm with jackarabit. I intend to use the 20spm 2K as a warm-up then blast the 5K at a faster rate.
I'm much slower at 20 spm than 30+ so want that restriction for the shortest possible distance.
If the stroke rate doesn't affect you as much, the decision might be different...

Re: Forum Flyers
It depends whether you're regularly rowing at low stroke rates. If not, then do the R20 restricted piece for 2K, do the 5K at your "normal" stroke rate. You'll lose less time that way.
Re: Forum Flyers
Posted a CTC score and used the figures to update nonathlon. Will do a real 500 and 1K soon. Might do another 2k as well since I had a 7:40.5 at 20spm which is nearly my 2K PR last year.

What a great workout this month's CTC is!
Tried to keep it under 1:54 and ended up being comfortable so hopefully I'll get another chance to go faster.
2k r20 then the 5k free rate seems to be the way to go?
Kind of a tough one to pace!

Only need two more rowers (of any type) in this month's CTC challenge to float our 5th boat. My wife is in the boat still waiting at the dock, and she is not happy about it
So for the team's sake...and mine...let's go

Re: Forum Flyers
I finally got round to doing this month's CTC. I wasn't looking forward to it but couldn't put it off any longer
(You win this time, wolfrich You beat me by 7 seconds.
It was the 2k @ 20spm that killed me - couldn't get my pace under 2 minutes. Made some time up with under 19 1/2 for the 5K but it wasn't enough.)

Gotta kiss a lot of impressive frogs while waiting for the less impressive but useful tadpole classifications to fill the empty seats. An Olympian-decibels level ‘Let’s Go’ may be called for this month?
Addendum: Had a look just now. That 5 boat is so close to being a lightie full house that indeed even a stray MHWT will do.
