Packing (and shipping) modelD

Post by gianstefanomonni » June 26th, 2021, 4:02 am

Hey guys
I’m trying to figure out how to package and ship my concept2 modelD (relocating from Ireland to Italy so the machine needs to be ready for an international shipment)
unfortunately I don’t have anymore the original concept2 shipping box. I contacted concept2 and asked them if I could buy one box, but they don’t have spares at the moment…

I was wondering if anyone here has had the same problem

Thanks for your help !

Perhaps if you can locate a dealer selling new machines near you, you may be able to ask them to save one box for you. Otherwise, several large, sturdy boxes and plenty of padding!

The "unboxing" video below may help. I realize you don't have the foam stuff, but just the same...

Not the same but I've just shipped a mountain bike frame.

I made braces on the inside of the box by cutting card board to the internal width of the box and rolling the cardboard into a thick tube (using tape to keep its form).

I then secured them at various places through the frame/box - makes it really very sturdy

Maybe sell your Model D in Ireland and purchase another one once you get to Italy? The difference between selling it and purchasing new at your destination versus shipping might be kind of a wash in the end.

Shipping seems like it would be relatively expensive from Ireland to Italy.
