OK, so I did the June CTC this morning but I didn't like it. Maybe because I picked the most humid day of the year so far and got drenched in sweat early and often. That 2' rest between the 2nd and 3rd piece seemed like no rest at all.

I'll probably do another before the month is over but don't expect to like that either.

Two boats waiting for a lady to get us off the dock.
I just posted my score - so one boat is off the dock. I also seemed to choose a bad day as far as weather goes (we broke a heat record here yesterday) and I was definitely drenched with sweat. I agree that the two minute rest felt like nothing - by the time I caught my breath and took a drink, there were only 15 seconds left and I had to start pulling again!

Thanks for everyone's encouraging words to push me to get this done. Even though I am holding up the table, I did better than I thought I would. I feel like I might have another go (maybe on 20 June as part of the Summer Solstice challenge). I also feel like I can now tackle a 10,000 meter (even if I have to take a few breaks along the way).

We filled 7 boats last month! Maybe we can pull that off again.

Well that CTC is probably not a crowd pleaser but i kind of liked it.l :) it is at the limits of ctc but whatever training you are doing it is not going to be harmed by sticking this one in there, be it either just a low rate burn or an all guns blazing attempt

So treat it as a 30min or 10k training piece and do the second attempt on rerow. Im going to have a few attempts and on 1st july have a10k blast and see how wrong i am :)

Loving the energy about the flyers at the moment, keep it up, ill try and shimmy the facebook crew into action.

Hi team

There is a new challenge that might be of interest, and the best part is that you don't need to do anything other than keep plugging away with your usual training volumes :).

Justin Cheatle is coordinating a virtual challenge in parallel with Ian Rivers' real world challenge (rowing across the Atlantic) - see website.

He will be allocating Forum Flyers evenly across 4 FF teams using last season's metre rankings, and then using our current season's metres from the affiliation standings to add to the other participating teams' metres. This information will then be regularly plotted on the same map as the real GPS data tracking Ian's progress on the website.

The main purpose is to raise awareness of the real world challenge in a fun way, and with minimal additional effort from us. Not so much a competition among ourselves like our usual virtual team challenges, but rather a novel collaborative effort (although depending on the data shared, it might be possible to see how the 4 teams are contributing :)).

More updates to follow when something is worth sharing.

Dave

Over half the month gone and haven't had a chance to think about doing the challenge again. Hopefully shorter sharper ones next month.

I've thought about it but haven't gotten any further than that. Still planning to try improving on my modest score, but spending a lot of time in boats instead of on the erg; taking advantage while the weather is good for it.

And besides, the team needs women more than it needs me to shave a bit of time off.

Seemed to me the scant rest made it harder than 10k continuous. Interval format distorts expectations, for good or ill.

Did a simple 3800m for Juneteenth.
Tomorrow might redo June challenge and add enough before and after to get the 21000m solstice day challenge.
Have a great weekend everyone.

I only did 1900 today - but have the same plan as you for tomorrow. (Redo this month's challenge and then add to it.)

And, yes we need some more women for the CTC challenge. I was happy when Sabrina bumped me out of Boat 1. I will be just as happy when I get bumped out of Boat 2!

I finally found time for this month's CTC. Not as unpleasant as I was expecting (5K is normally my longest distance). The rests made it better for me - not as daunting as a straight 10K would be (or 9.6K).

[Edited] Richard, I just spotted that I took 20 seconds off your time. I wasn't aiming for that but I reckon you could claw back that small amount if you have another go. :)

Hlo All, it's been a while. About a decade I think. Hope you're all well.

I joined a gym this month and started rowing again. No real competitions in sight yet so plenty of time to catch up. I'm slow. I see Chris the Meerkats is still around. How do I rejoin tbe amazing FF team?
