Today, I finally rowed a sub 8 minute 2,000m. (7:59:0).

This had been an informal goal of mine for many years although I didn't pursue it with any seriousness. I started up again about a half year ago, more serious. It took me a lot of focusing on form, and training - putting in a lot of meters via steady state rows at low intensity.
Steven (age 65, hwt).

Thanks Dutch and Dangerscouse!
Well done steven, fantastic effort. Glad you have finally achieved the time. What was your drag factor and spm?
My drag factor was 112. My spm averaged 29.

Usually, I train with a lower stroke rate (around 22) but for longer distances (5km or 30 min) and I try to keep my effort at UT2. I'll go back to this for regular training.

Well i have finally broken 20 mins for 5k, some of you may remember last month on the 8th and 10th I tried but it was hd both times. My previous best was 20.23.
This time was meant to be just a 5k training and turned into a tt. Was a near perfect row for me. its near 28 degrees as well. I got off in not too bad a shape, I was not a heaving wreck.
I think the difference from the last attempts has been the getting a bike erg and some 10k cycles, heavier weight training, the fan is a big must and a strategic approach to the tt. So thanks everyone. 19 mins here I come lol

Well done Dutch,

You were obviously going to get there at some point, given your recent near-misses, and I'm happy for you that you've slain that monkey. The bike is probably making a big difference to your fitness. My guess is you'll improve this further soon as your fitness improves - 23 is a relatively sedate rate for a 5k (probably because you weren't planning on a TT) but it suggests there's a lot more to come.

Well done Dutch. Breaking a milestone, and a mental block is a big moment.

You joke about sub 19, but it's not too far off with some good structured training, especially as you knocked off a big chunk this time, and you weren't collapsed on the floor afterwards.
