New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
My splits are a bit 'odd', i wanted to record a standard Marathon and 50k so i set the pm5 for three splits FM, 7905m and a final 10k.
My log book is public if anyone wants the fine details, summary is as follows:
FM 3:33:12.0 2:31.5/500m 23spm 146bpm
7905 39:38.5 2:32.3/500m 25spm 150bpm

Awesome result! The Ski Erg is a beast, iangallagher wrote: ↑May 22nd, 2021, 10:59 pmFelt like i was capable to shave off a few more seconds from my Skierg 2km. So targeted sub 6.40.
I was torn between either doing this session or a session focussing on high rate work. So i did a 10 minute warm up and a few 30 seconds at rate 50. Felt awful and then tried the same pace at around 40 spm and that felt easier. So based off that i thought id just do the 2km today then start focussing on high rate work next week.
Set off a bit fast but knew i'd slow in the middle and recover somewhat. Feel like its going to take some work now to chip away at this. But happy with the result.

Very nice Howard. 35 is quite a low rate for a 1'. Mine was at 48spm and you're quicker at 35spm. I'm sure you could be over 340 if you squeeze a few more strokes in somehow.HowardF wrote: ↑May 23rd, 2021, 9:09 amThis is a new experience as I newer do sprints. Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Experiment with the drag by incrementally decreasing it for your sprints and try to keep the spm over 40 for 1’. Practice will definitely help, as you will fine what works for you, everyone is different.HowardF wrote: ↑May 24th, 2021, 1:03 pmThanks faach1. I would be happy to be alive let alone rowing then - I do like the idea of doing this every year though as long as possible.

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
I think its a good idea, and if its an objective simply to help motivate someone, it doesn't matter what the pace is or how its done, when i1st started erging, used to go to indoor competitions and there was guy on the circuit, charles his name was and he was in his 80s competing regularly. I understand he passed away a while back, but it isinpsiring to see older people just getting on and doing something (he says as someone who others may call 'old' now!!!)

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Today, I finally rowed a sub 8 minute 2,000m. (7:59:0).
This had been an informal goal of mine for many years although I didn't pursue it with any seriousness. I started up again about a half year ago, more serious. It took me a lot of focusing on form, and training - putting in a lot of meters via steady state rows at low intensity.
Steven (age 65, hwt).
