Slides Are ........
Training
Neil,

You're catching on too.

Getting rid of all the extraneous "thinking" helps a lot.

Then it can clearly be seen that cycling is faster than running, and slides are faster and easier than are ergs.

Putting slides in the rankings with ergs would be like allowing bicycles for running events.

Quite ridiculous, as they are not the same thing.

"Getting rid of all the extraneous "thinking" helps a lot."

That explains everything. Of course thinking capacities differ, so extraneous levels will vary. (Unless you divide your thinking capacity by the world record capacity and adjust everyone elses capacity to be less than yours).

So when did the people starting their own "Kick Me" signs on their backs?

Mr. Rupp's discussion comes out of nowhere, as well as his "conclusion". Quite funny. The sad part is that he forgets when to be sarcastic. (And to read, pause before responding, understand the link between pace, rate, and distance per stroke). But, heck, I've been "Iggied", so it's just a one-sided conversation. Wait, they were one sided before too. We should put up a forum called Comedy for all of his postings.

Anyway, the post regarding slides was originally about stress or strain on the back. It sounds like the consensus is slides are easier on the back.

It also looks like the same perceived effort for a particular pace is at a faster stroke rate. Interesting dynamic between moving the "boat" versus the "body". It also appears to be inconclusive regarding times with slides (but it leans towards faster times on the slides).

John-

Unless you have actually used slides, your views on them are as relevant as Tom Cruise's views on post-partum depression.

Also, if your tone were nicer and the phrases more quotable, you'd be our Yogi Berra. You never cease to amaze.

Neil

I now know without a doubt, if I didn't know before, I never need to read another post of yours.

The only thing "quite ridiculous," was that analogy. I don't think one would even need to possess the knowledge you possess to see that.

Hello,

Anybody got any ideas why I find the first 2 strokes on slides so awkward ?

Is this indicative of a specific technique deficiency ?

Bill
This is usually called "bum shoving" because your bottom moves but the force doesn't go into the chain. This is a very bad habit and does not show up as much on the stationary erg.

You must not be too bad since it only happens for two strokes and then you get it under control. If you really had a bad case of timing error, then you would bang the slides into the ends.

Regards,

Paul Flack

Bill, to change the subject ,which is way off track anyway , I notice from your signature that you are living very nearby in Lexington. I live in Weston and we should get together sometime for a workout on slides.

Cheers,

Paul Flack

It would be nice to meet you and see what slides are like. My back is an issue, so I've been considering them, but the space may be an issue. Of course if I like the feel, I'll make the space.

Let's try to coordinate something in August. I'm fighting off some type of funk that's been messing with my rows this week. (In addition to getting a company started and having 3.5 kids...)

Regards,
