I already posted this on the "What did you do today?" thread, but since it is a PB, I will double post... :)

15,823m in 60:00 min. @ 1:53.7 pace | HR 162 average | 31 SPM (which is the rate that I always seem to row when I am rowing hard)

Today, for the first time, I thought I might someday be able to row 16km in one hour. That is 1:52.5 pace, but unlike on previous attempts, that doesn't seem insane.
As per the other thread, cracking 60' row 👏👏👏👏

Nice OE, that’s a great row.

Keith, I just saw your FM PB from a few days ago, that’s an impressive row.

Well done OE,
Your running background has obviously left you with a great CV system. Keeping the rate high is probably also helping you avoid injury - your chassis won't be as strong as your engine yet.

16k doesn't look far off IMO.
Thanks Max! I hope to get there. I plateaued in running (as a master) when for about a year I tried to break 10 miles in under 1 hour. As a young runner, that was not unusual to run 57-59 minutes for a 10 miler but at age 40-41, I really wanted to crack the hour again. I ran 1:01 several times and never made it. I hope I am not the same in rowing; if I plateau at 15,800m, I will be disappointed. 16km in an hour, like sub-7 in the 2km, are both big barriers for me...

p.s. Your picture reminds me of an Egon Schiele self-portrait. :)

16k are possible for sure, your engine is strong enough, a bit more stroke power and you'll have it :)

Still very much newbie gains but i'll take it. Another 2km PB on the skierg. Wanted 1.42 today. Did 500 repeats earlier in the week to dial in the pace and this felt ok. PB by 8 seconds.

Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M
6:46.8 2,000m 1:41.7 333 1445 41

1:40.7 2,000m 1:40.7 343 1479 44
182cm; 89kg; 1km = 2.57.5; 2km = 6.19; 4mins = 1296; 5km = 16.49; 6km = 20.24; 30mins = 8605; 10km= 35.31; 60 minutes = 16205 HM = 1:18.50

Well im only a month in using the skierg. A month in on the rower i pulled 6.42. So not sure what that really tells us but i think the skierg is harder but im also starting off fitter with the skierg having done a year of rowing. But i think for the majority of people the skierg is generally slower.

I find it easier to rate up on the rower but harder on the skierg. Either way, im really enjoying the variety

Do you (or many others) use a little pad on the seat or do you go with the standard set-up? I have seen people with little pads but I have never tried one...

Pace depends much more on upperbody strenght. Most people are faster on the rower, but not all. Some are even faster on the skierg.

Ian, think that sub 6.30 is a doable this season, maybe even more. Rating very low.

I have a little pad (Concept2 pad - thin piece of foam) that's always on my rower seat - for longer rows (HM or more) I often use 2.

Well done. It is often said, and only really appreciated with hindsight, but your early PBs will be your training sessions if you work hard enough.

16k isn't going to be too much of a leap for you soon enough. Some more erg sessions will help, but you're making good progress.

I always used to use a cut up yoga mat in a pillow case for the FM+ distances, but for my last session I tried to use it at about 70k, but I ended up taking it off as it didn't feel right and I didn't really need it
