Hi! I hope it’s ok but I think I have just joined your team. Will have a good read through the posts here to work out what I need to do. In the meantime, shall I just carry on rowing?! :D

Pretty sure I will do a HM and actually try it for time instead of my previous goes which have just been to finish.

I kind of want to do a FM too, but that's sooo long and I would want it to be a real try for time but then I need a hydration pack or super long straw so I can drink water while continuing to row  Not sure if I will go for it

What are you planning? Are you still mixing in other forms of training or focusing on rowing?

I am planning to do M sometime between May 4 — 15. I'm aiming for 2:53.XX for my M.
(PB is 2:56:52.7 https://log.concept2.com/profile/1077071/log/49648801, You need to be logged in C2 Logbook in order to see my logbook sessions).

I think I'll do one more longer row (21-32k) at goal pace (GP) or 1-2 sec faster than GP before my M attempt. So far I've done couple of those:
32,195m (2:02.8 avg pace, incl one stop for drinking, stop took about 23 sec) https://log.concept2.com/profile/1077071/log/53449570
21,223m (incl. 18K at 1:59.9, no breaks) https://log.concept2.com/profile/1077071/log/53545824

To achieve 2:53:59 or faster M, avg pace needs to be 2:03.7 (184.9W) according to the Concept2 Pace Calculator:
https://www.concept2.com/indoor-rowers/ ... calculator

And I think i am trying to get through M with two drink breaks (at 16 & 32K) and estimating that time lost for those will be about 60sec (2x30sec) if anything goes as planned. So my "cruise" pace needs to be 2:02.5 (188.5W) or faster. I probably start with 2:02.4—2:02.6 (190—191W) and try to hold that as long as possible.

I am really not a fan of this month’s CTC, I just cannot get comfortable with it  (which I suppose means it is probably something I should try more often ). Such a difference from 6 months ago when I noticed all my long pieces were at 18-19 spm and I could not hold the more normal 24-26 spm for long.

Have you all found that trying to train with specific stroke rate targets is beneficial? I am sort of slowly following the beginner Pete plan (I keep breaking it up with challenges and sometimes non-rowing exercise but I figure I am still getting faster and seeing the benefits so it’s fine) but I wonder if I should throw in more of the WOD pieces which often have stroke rate limits or think about that more later once I actually feel fit or just not think about it all.

I struggled with it, too, but it was a totally different kind of workout for me. I'd never tried working out at such a low rate, and it felt different - like more of a strength/power focus than I'm used to. Typically, I just row, and unless I'm sprinting or doing some kind of time trial, I'll settle in at 25 to 27 spm. Obviously, I couldn't say whether a low-spm workout is beneficial for me, but I thought this was a good workout, and I plan to incorporate low-spm work into my routine.

I've done a half, and my workouts typically end up around 13K to 15K meters. Now I'm thinking this challenge is the right time for me to do my first FM. I've found some decent information on planning that kind of effort. Any tips from the veterans?

I was told to try 30k before, to make sure I could last. Make sure your form is perfect! 👍 GL!

I need a long straw! Haha! I had to put the handle down several times to get water.

Recently I've just been rowing. Was snowing again recently, couldn't bring myself to run 🤣 might start that up again soon.
