For a quite inelegant transition: I did a 10K today and wanted to share with you all my fourth new PB since late February - I squeaked in just under the deadline for the March event for the Indoor Rowers League, and chopped 1:03.6 off my previous PB, set in June 2020.

I had set a goal of sub-39 minutes, but after starting out at that pace, I was pretty sure that for today I wasn't going to be able to hold onto it. Maybe on another day, but I needed to get this piece in to make sure I finished out the season with the IRL schedule. I feel like for how I felt going in, I paced it pretty much spot-on. Next time, I'm going to see that 38 on my monitor!

First time poster.
I did a marathon and a 50K row - 2 weeks apart. Marathon (about my 5th time) was a PB at 2:55:02. Strange thing is that the 50K (2nd 50K effort) 2 weeks later, was a touch faster - with a slower average HR (130 average 50K vs 135 average FM)... I can't work out why that would be.
Training for a 100K in September 2021, any tips grateful. I will search the boards for any info. Think I can do it, but want to post a reasonable time (maybe <7 hrs). Hardest part is losing the tempo and rythym when slowing to drink or reaarange yourself. I'll need to plan this in a bit more detail.

Those are two great rows! Not sure why the 50K was "easier" maybe because body was more used to the long distance. I have never done 50K or 100K but others will be sure to have some advice for you.Mal wrote: ↑April 5th, 2021, 8:05 amFirst time poster.

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Welcome to the forum Mal. If you search for 100km there is a fairly recent thread that I posted quite a lot of information to that may be useful. The main takeaway is that a 50k bears little resemblance to a 100k, as there are so many other factors at play, not least overtraining / overthinking the enormity of it all.Mal wrote: ↑April 5th, 2021, 8:05 amFirst time poster.

HR is quite a fickle measurement and it can vary depending on hydration, stress, heat, humidity amongst some other things, so it doesn't very much on a micro measurement: it's far more useful for a macro measurement and analysing trends. Part of the reason why the 50k was a bit easier faster will be due to physical and mental adaptions. You know it's possible, and your body has been bolstered from the training to make it more resilient.
As you're in the 50-59 HWT category a sub 7 hrs finish would possibly be a British record (if you're British). The record is 6:56.31 and has stood for 10 years so it's fair to say that is an excellent result, and 7:08 would put you top of the World Rankings for 50-59 in this year, and the past four years. Clearly a 'reasonable time' is subjective, but I'd say for a 57/58yo 8:30 is a very reasonable result.
Well done on the FM PB, that is a great result.

When you're not used to a HM, they can be a very different challenge, so this makes this even more of an effort.
