Hi Folks,
Just a friendly reminder that the World Rowing Virtual Indoor Sprints are ongoing (March 10-14, 2021).
The World Rowing Virtual Indoor Sprints are a virtual indoor rowing championship run jointly by Concept2 and World Rowing. To take part, you just need to row 1000m March 10–14 and enter it in your logbook by the deadline of March 16 12:00 GMT (08:00 ET).
A few Luna-Tics have already logged results, but I'll bet we can do better.

Day 13 of 31 !
"Save your days off! You never know when you'll need them!"
And, as of yesterday, we do have a Lunie winner for the Mudness Madness Challenge! Steven Larky often rows with the Lunies on the Team Challenges - and I am hopeful that he will join us for the World Erg Challenge! https://log.concept2.com/challenges/mud ... 21/winners
5K = 17,648 (58) 10K = 5183 (30) Yesterday
5K = 15,159 (55) 10K = 4397 (29) Today
Just two days ago, the overall 5K participation rate had dropped by 38%. Today, it is a drop of 55 percent. The 10K participation rate had dropped by 50 percent two days ago, and is now at 67 percent. The Lunies continue to hang on to their erg handles and handlebars though...with a current 27 percent drop from peak participation at the 5K level, and a 29 percent drop in the peak participation at 10K level. There's something about being on a team and helping each other stay motivated!!
Meanwhile, the snowplows are staged, the produce section of the grocery store looks like the locusts have swept through, and for one of the few times in the multi years that Longmont Dairy has delivered milk, they are changing their schedules by a day and will not send trucks out on Sunday eve due to impending snow. Only the storm is late in arriving.

Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
How does the World Erg Challenge work exactly? Is it as simple as it sounds? All of our numbers are added together and the highest number wins? How is this fair for teams of 5 vs teams of 75 people?
And snowmaggeddon so far has grass visible on the ground. I think we were supposed to have about 12” by now. Not sure we are going to reach the 30” that was predicted yesterday.

Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
It is almost as simple as it sounds, yes! Teams compete in their division or type, and also within each type is a subdivision for size: All, 2-5, 6-20, 21-50, 51+. Last year we had 95 members on the World Erg Challenge Team, and we usually don't filter down any further than all teams. Our goal is to be in the top ten of all the teams - and this is harder and harder to do with all the mega teams out there. Of late, the on-water teams have been kicking some virtual butt as they ready for their on water season. Zach and Karen are the only teammates we've had lately that decided to do 100K (and sometimes double that) in a day. Some of these really young on water team members throw down a 100K or a 50K without a blink seemingly!LordVader5 wrote: ↑March 13th, 2021, 7:32 pmHow does the World Erg Challenge work exactly? But. There's always a but. There is a strange strategy that happens in these Challenges. The first two weeks are spent building a team. It will appear that everyone is hitting the ergs with full speed. But no. We do try not to get too far behind in the first two weeks, because that can sure set us up for less than what we like to see. The REAL Challenge happens after the first two weeks when teams are "set." You can't add people. They can't transfer. That's when it gets serious. Some gamesmanship is not very honorable - like hoarding meters for a last minute meter drop. We don't do that. We'll take our lumps when they hit us. Equally, we will personally pull out as many stops as we can to give it a good effort. That doesn't mean that we expect erging to take over your life - do what you can do, when you can do it.
So how much to erg? Some use a rule of thumb of adding in an extra 15 minutes to their sessions, or something similar. YOU decide what works for you. We don't want to overencourage people to do more than is safe for them - but ultimately, each individual decides what that means. If you are a competitive person (hello triathlete), you may well get caught up in it.
Who Can Participate
Teams must be an established "club," under one of the following divisions:
Virtual
Education
Military
On-Water
Health/Fitness
Corporate
Emergency Services
Medical Facility
Correctional Facility
CrossFit
Team standings in all divisions will be posted online throughout the duration of the challenge. There will be separate Honor Boards for each club division, so you can compare your club's performance with other similar clubs.
And, as noted above, within these divisions or types are subfilters for size: 2-5 members, 6-20, 21-50, 51+ and ALL.
The three team challenges: Fall Team Challenge, Virtual Team Challenge and World Erg Challenge allow for participation of all kinds of teams. I'm pretty sure they no longer provide physical prizes, but you can indeed purchase these through their third party vendor. Sometimes the glory is what it's all about - especially if a team just ahead of you edged you out in the last couple of days by a few thousand meters during the prior Challenge. Those are numbers you fight for!

It's Pi day! And turn your clocks ahead day !
Snowmaggedon is not the predicted depth of snow...and maybe that's fortunate. This stuff is like shoveling wet clay. Add in a wind speed of an average of 10 mph, with temperatures hovering around 31 F...and it's downright unpleasant. Lost power several times this AM, each for short bits, so we'll see if we get through the posting!
Remember to sign on to the Lunie WEC team! Go to your logbook, scroll across to teams, and them down to "join" - starts tomorrow, or today if you are in certain locales!

Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Hey peeps, I just added myself to this active group. Have been erging off and on (but never a lot) over the last 10 - 15 years. Decided on May 4 last year to complete 1 million meters b 12/31/20. I reached that on November 27. Too early. Next challenges: 2 million for the 20/21-season, HM under 1:30 (done), >7500m in 30 minutes (done), 10k under 40mins (need to tae 19s of personal best). 250k meters to go now. for the 2 million I will add to the mud seasons challenge as well. Cheers!
