As i've said elsewhere mate - outstanding!! All your big sessions are paying off and this is boding ever so well for a real nudge at the 100km. Very impressive work buddy and a well deserved PB mate
Thanks mate. As you'll know the rate of attrition is never linear, and the second half will be where the real struggle happens. Admittedly I haven't ever felt so controlled doing the longer distances, and I'm recovering quicker than ever too, so maybe, just maybe, my fears won't materialise.
Only one way to find out

Another step closer to the ultimate goal of 100k, and a PB by five minutes and five seconds.
No wobbles at all, which really surprised me. It wasn't pleasant but it was more or less manageable throughout.
Bonkers

Smashed my 2K PB today - closing in on sub-7!
My previous "official" 2K was 7:26.9, which I did back in May 2020 about a month after I started using my C2 as my primary workout method. More than 1.6 million meters later, earlier this month I did a 2K in 7:19.3 as part of the Cross-Team Challenge, but it didn't really count because it was the first of three 2K pieces done back-to-back for this month's challenge. I was really happy with that, but knew I'd have more in the tank for a single 2K piece. Meanwhile, the Indoor Rowers League set a 2K challenge for the February piece, and I decided today was the day. I blew myself away with my 7:07.
I never really thought I'd be saying this, but now I'm thinking a sub-7-minute 2K isn't out of the realm of possibility!

Well done. Everything seems impossible until you do it
I'm confident this is just the start of faster and faster results too

Thanks! Next month’s events are a 6k in the Cross-Team Challenge and 10k in the IRL - good motivation for a couple of new PB’s.

Great work Jon,
The 7:26 was never going to last long given that it was at the same pace as your 5k, but this is a huge advance. I'd say that sub-7 is definitely possible based on that 5k. Your shorter pieces look like they need some attention, though. Have you being doing much short sharp stuff as part of your 2k prep? A few weeks of that can make an enormous difference.

Completely insane to my eyes. So impressive, and wobble-free! 5 mins is an enormous chunk to take off. Shame it's not a ranking piece - this would be right at the top of the tree.

Thanks Max! I tend to shy away from the ranked workouts for some dumb reason, but I do try to mix steady state with medium distance intervals and short work. I think I do skew toward the longer distances, and getting over that idea could help. I’ll take your advice and see where it goes for me.

Rating max, way to low, very tough on the shoulders. In the longer run, for mortals, its key to rate up.
Thanks all,
Early days yet for me on the SkiErg, and I've been doing mainly low rate L4-style training, just so that 10k doesn't seem unimaginably far.
I can't get my head round rating 40 for a 10k, but 11 months now until the next TDS... I'll see how I go.

Max, L4 stuff on the skierg should in my view be not like on the rower, but much higher rated. And in general I would use much more free rate. For the rest I do think, just like rowing, that volume is king, but you need to be fast enough. Long very easy work is not taxing the aerobic system enough.

Thanks Henry,
I use 1.5 times the wp rates and that seems to make sense (as well as making all the pieces easy to calculate).
But yeah, I think because the prime movers are smaller muscles and the legs are mainly used on the recovery, it's just not as hard on the cv system.

Given that your current rating is to low, that 1.5 is also to low. I think you should slowly up the ratings, if possible. Ofcourse longer, base sessions, should never become racing. So you need to take time.

Thanks Max. I'm having to re-learn my ultra distances as the difference between now and 2017 is like night and day. I'm constantly surprising myself with how it's feeling, and for my FM and this session, neither of them were done with any type of taper. It was a ranked distance, I'd be more inclined to give it a proper attempt.
What I can say is that we are all capable of far more than we realise, and you rating up to r40 is a good case in point. Don't underestimate what you can do.
