Hi All,

Finally got back to sub-7, 6:56.3 2km.

Returning to the erg late last year after ten years off (still in the process of losing 60kg). Best ever 2KM was 6:53 at 17 whilst rowing with school competitively. Now just on the erg as a fitness test with a dragon boating crew, but now looking to sub 6:50 to beat 17 year old me and re-set a new PB.

Harry
Love that you are looking to beat your younger self and keep improving. Great job getting back under 7:00.

Another step closer to the ultimate goal of 100k, and a PB by five minutes and five seconds.

No wobbles at all, which really surprised me. It wasn't pleasant but it was more or less manageable throughout.
Wow Stu, this would be an amazing FM pace let alone 50K - looking really strong!!

Wow, incredible effort Stu! Looking forward to your 100k :)
Thanks Martin. If only the second 50k was the same as the first 50k, but this was notably easier than previous attempts.

Superb stuff, Stu!!
Are you aiming for a sub 6:40 on the 100km or will you be satisfied with just beating Grahame's BR?

Paul G
Thanks Paul. I'm conflicted tbh, not least as I remember the feeling of it all slipping away last time I did it. I'll be very happy with a sub 7, but just about beating Grahame will be my optimistic goal. I'm really not sure if a sub 6:40 is possible, but that is purely based on previous experience, and this time around the difference is like day and night, so maybe that should be my goal.

Impressive row. Thinking of going for 50km in May, only ever gone that far continuously as part of 100k, I note that you were only 1S/500m slower than the FM a fortnight ago, how did they compare in effort?

- Iain
Thank Iain. I think this may have been a tiny bit easier, and the additional distance didn't cause me any issues. I wasn't really going for a specific time today as it's not ranked, so it was just whatever felt comfy. I have been slightly limited by previous memories of FMs and 50ks so I haven't given 100% effort for either.

What has really helped me is regularly doing a HM - 30k distances. That has been really useful to think that it's 'only' ( ) 30k, and I do that regularly.

Thanks Keith. It was another day that I didn't expect much, but it just seemed to all come together. I think it would have been my third fastest FM.

Thanks Guys. Have felt exhausted all week but took yesterday off and just wanted to do a UT2 10k, but after 10min I wasn’t into it, so I thought I could replace duration with intensity and since I’m not feeling great if I miss 7 I won’t be that upset. Decided to try to keep the suggested 28-30 rate, but ended up at 28. Only the last few hundred meters took full attention.
Next goals are cracking 8000m for 30min and sub 18 5k.
Sooner or later will get a new phone/app and figure out how to post pics. :)

After a lift last night and probably still recovering a bit from Tuesday 2k I was happy with tonight’s 30R20. Hurt a lot more compared to last week 30R20. 3 week progress has been 1:58.2 to 1:53.8 to 1:53.2 now. 7947m. Getting closer to 8k. I’ll try to pull sub 1:53 next week but I don’t know if 1:52.5 is there yet.

My little brother started rowing with me last month and still uninitiated pulled 7:00, so big brother had to hit sub 7 first. :!:

It he likes it...he’ll be solid.
Did a 1:04 kilo 1-2 years ago on almost no cycling training. Brutal, crazy speed his whole life.

Congrats, nice sub 7, but plenty more to come, baby brother will maybe to much, that is, if he starts training.

As i've said elsewhere mate - outstanding!! All your big sessions are paying off and this is boding ever so well for a real nudge at the 100km. Very impressive work buddy and a well deserved PB mate

Thanks all. And I thank all of you for motivation. I’m at the age that the rocking chair calls as much as the rower.
Tired of people asking/PMing me why I’m slow on certain durations. I just started rowing. My HM is based on 1 mild effort.
Fwiw I’m chasing Stu/Tony/etc hero power. B)
