Tour de SkiErg final event:

10k default PB
42:49.8 10,000m 2:08.4 165 867 32

8:45.1 2000m 2:11.3 155 832 30

8:12.7 10000m 2:03.2 188 946 38

I'd been dreading this, and went for a strong negative split rather than a flatter pace to make sure I could actually finish.

If someone would be good enough to put my right arm back in its socket, I'd appreciate it :)

Squeezed another 0.9 off the 2k PB in the WRICH. Came 5th in the Masters 55 class, pleased with that.
Hit my funny 200+ HR spike at 5 mins again but it’s all okay apparently.

Great stuff Tony. Very even splits - you're not leaving much on the table. You're still pretty new at this though (your youthful dalliance with the erg notwithstanding), so I think you'll be even faster soon.

Fantastic Tony...5th in the world and with a PB in the low 6:30s! I will join the 55 class in a couple years but then you will be in the 60-64 class, glad I won't have to deal with you
The target has got to be to stay sub-6:30 until then Keith, but I reckon you're still improving, let alone maintaining.

We will see, my 2K has been pretty much the same for like 2 years but I am due to test it. I will prob give it a go after the 1K I will be doing for the WRVIS. I do need to at least stay the same to be competitive then.

Hi All,

Finally got back to sub-7, 6:56.3 2km.

Returning to the erg late last year after ten years off (still in the process of losing 60kg). Best ever 2KM was 6:53 at 17 whilst rowing with school competitively. Now just on the erg as a fitness test with a dragon boating crew, but now looking to sub 6:50 to beat 17 year old me and re-set a new PB.

This was a row that didn't go to plan.

The plan was a reasonably fast 30r20 with a 165BPM HR cap. Then the HR monitor cacked out at about the 4 minute point.

So I went for a 30r20 PB, with 8500m being the target. I really nearly put the handle down at all the standard intervals: 12 min, 15 min, 5k, 20 min, 6k, 25 min.

Anyway, got there in the end, but it's probably best that I didn't know my heart rate.

116m onto my 30r20 PB and 98m off my free rate PB.
Big score but surely more to come... especially at free rate.

Wouldn’t say it’s quite an all out effort. But I did my second 30R20 today. Last week I only averaged 1:58.2. This week I did 7908m @ 1:53.8 average. The last 2 weeks have a few workouts have emphasis of pulling hard and as a small lightweight I have to get used to it. 8k next time!
That a really nice score for a LWT, congrats 👏👏

What race are you in next week?
A bit late. Sorry. I was in the open lightweight category. Unfortunately it did not go well.

Awesome Alex! You deserve this so much, happy for you.
Keep crushing it and get ready for the 50 age group.
Cheers Keith, appreciate your support and encouragement 👊. Excited to keep this journey going now.

You know my thoughts mate. It was in reality a sub 6:50 due to the racing start, and just look how far you've come from someone who was terrified from entering any competition to being gutted to not go sub 6:50.
Thx Stu, you're spot on and who'd have thought I'd have entered 3 competitions in 4mths after feeling petrified before that. Really hope that they return to in person racing as that would be cool to meet people who have helped me do far. 🙏
I guess we races each other! I ended up going 6:47.

Rating max, way to low, very tough on the shoulders. In the longer run, for mortals, its key to rate up.

Another step closer to the ultimate goal of 100k, and a PB by five minutes and five seconds.

No wobbles at all, which really surprised me. It wasn't pleasant but it was more or less manageable throughout.

Are you aiming for a sub 6:40 on the 100km or will you be satisfied with just beating Grahame's BR?

Impressive row. Thinking of going for 50km in May, only ever gone that far continuously as part of 100k, I note that you were only 1S/500m slower than the FM a fortnight ago, how did they compare in effort?
