“Downgrading” a Model E

Post by ToddMR » February 24th, 2021, 8:51 pm

I’ve recently moved and my model E is a little awkward to store in the new place.

I’m considering “downgrading” it by swapping the tall legs for a set of Model D legs. Also, the fixed PM arm can go.

I’ve priced out the legs and it’ll cost about $80. If it’s a simple swap, I’d then be able to sell the tall legs.

Has anyone done this, or gone the other direction?

Anyone in Atlanta with a Model D who wants to see if we can swap them out?

We have a Model D and wanted an E but not available. Where are you situated. Are they Black or Grey. Would consider them if black. Please feel free to to DM me.

You need to talk to Concept2 1-800 245 5676 (or write an email to them info@concept2.com). The new model D (renamed to the Rowerg and with the moveable monitor arm) has the leg swap option. But they, as yet, haven't announced the retrofit options for older model Ds and model Es.

@Citroen -

They did announce that retrofit kits will be available for the C and D.

It's on the product page under the FAQs.

Can I put the taller legs on my Model D?

Yes, the tall legs will eventually be available as a retrofit option for the Model D. This will bring it to the 20” seat height. The cost for the retrofit kit will be $180.00, excluding shipping and taxes.

Are older model machines (Model A, B or C) retrofittable with the taller legs?

The tall legs will eventually be available as a retrofit option for the Model C, bringing it to a 20” seat height.

It is not possible to retrofit the taller legs onto a Model A or B.

Online tech support wrote that the bolt holes for the E front legs do not line up with those of the C/D legs. I'm not at home at the moment, but from pics, it looks like that's true. But I want to check for myself that the Model E doesn't have both sets of holes for the legs to bolt on. The company has done so much to reduce the number of different parts, it would see odd to me that they wouldn't have the same bolt holes on the two models that were produced at the same time.

The hole pattern for attaching the front and rear legs is different between the D and E. With the right fasteners and a 1/4" drill you could attach D legs to an E, but depending on your DIY skills it might be easier to find a buyer for your E and get a new D.....
