Mars Rover Perseverance Animated Landing....the only thing that could make this better would be to have all the NASA people who were clapping and high fiving at its success be part of the video! So cool !

Image We're on our FIFTH lunar journey!

Our current journey started on May 1, 2019. It takes 384,000,000 m per trip to reach the lunar surface. We earned 144 M in the 2020 season, and we have earned 151 M so far in the 2021 season. This leaves us with 89 M to go! My guesstimate at time of lunar landing is that we will arrive during the Dog Days Challenge. This is 5 to 6 months faster than we have ever made the trip if all holds true. (I thought someone might ask....)

Hope all our teammates in Texas (and we have many) are weathering the storm and its below freezing temperatures. I see posted meters from some, and know they are at least warm enough for erging. So many people affected by the power outages. We had cold cold temperatures here, yet never lost power. There is a macabre point when you realize that you as a human are like other animals in a giant refrigerator ... and that as your body temperature starts to fall, you could freeze. I will think about this the next time it seems cold. Perspective.

World Indoor Rowing Championships...virtual watching! Perhaps you've seen the announcement flash by as you powered up the Concept2 website? These competitions are different from the CRASH B's, events that some of our teammates (hello bg!) have competed in near their locales.

World Rowing Indoor Championships

The World Rowing Indoor Championships (WRICH) has official world championship status. The race changes venue each year, showcasing a truly international sport and bringing the best athletes from all corners of the globe. Concept2 is proud to present WRICH 2021, February 23–27, 2021.

The racing will be broadcast online on three of the race days, including the finals on Saturday, 27 February. You can watch live on worldrowing.com and World Rowing’s YouTube channel. More information, including the race timetable, can be found at worldrowing.com.

A Lucky Day

Photos of the pieces of engine housing - the big piece above is something called an engine ring - that fell in a neighborhood near my location from a United Airlines flight bound for Hawaii started appearing on major news networks yesterday afternoon...and the phone started ringing here as Mom and friends checked in. While the debris from the failed engine fell in an area that is perhaps 7 miles north of my location, the flight pattern of the reroute as the plane worked to get back to DIA flew much closer. Out walking the dogs in one of the first good blue sky days in a few, what first drew attention was that the plane's engine did not sound right. This was a really big plane. Scanning the skies, smoke could be seen. Almost instantaneously, news organizations began posting the story...and at least we knew what it was that we were hearing, and seeing. Amazingly, no one was injured, although property damage did occur in some of the locations. Soccer teams in practice in the park where much of the debris landed at the time of the incident. It was a lucky day for all.

I think it was Jan that asked awhile ago about goals we set. Well, I just checked my baseline goal for the year off today. My goal is 1 million row and ski and 2 million bike meters for the year. I think I got the ski goal on Saturday and just me the rowing goal today. I'm close to 3 million biking so that was awhile ago. Now I can focus on the 10k ski. I'm also lifting 3 days a week, so I'm working around that as well. With the warmer weather the last few days, I'm starting to get the itch to want to bike outside. Our roads are super muddy and icy so will probably wait a bit.

Knocked out the 10k ski. Faster pace than my 5k. Now I with I pushed it harder on 5k so I had a chance of being on first page of standing.
