No problem, I’ve contacted Rowers Choice to see if they could host a rate capped event

Re: Rate Capped Event
You would need to run an iOS or Android verified version using ErgData to utilize the stroke counter.
The PM5 on its own is no good, the average rating in the top line of the results in memory can be way out. I have seen errors of up to 1spm to high for a 30 minute.
You then have to come up with a stroke count maximum cut off point. for the 30R20 is that 600 strokes or less or 610 strokes or less or what ?
For example my season 30 minute PB this year is 7701 meters at 609 strokes so is that a 30R20 or not ?

Re: Rate Capped Event
I totally agree Carl, this event is in its infancy at the moment. In your example, a 30r20 would have to be 600 strokes to maintain as much parity as possible.Carl Watts wrote: ↑February 21st, 2021, 4:41 pmYou would need to run an iOS or Android verified version using ErgData to utilize the stroke counter.

Re: Rate Capped Event
You would probably set the 30R20 at 614 strokes maximum. 615 strokes is 20.5spm so the 614 rounds down to 20spm.
Will certainly require a close eye on the stroke counter say every 10 minutes to check its gone up only another 200.
You would hate to blow it by a stroke or two and your last few seconds may have to be really hard pulls at very low rating or simply handle down to let the clock run out.

Re: Rate Capped Event
That could be easily resolved by using a metronome.
A novel and interesting rate capped event would be rowing at least 40 spm or higher.
bikeerg 75 5'8" 155# - 18.5 - 51.9 - 568 - 1:52.7 - 8:03.8 - 20:13.1 - 14620 - 40:58.7 - 28855 - 1:23:48.0
rowerg 56-58 5'8.5" 143# - 1:39.6 - 3:35.6 - 7:24.0 - 18:57.4 - 22:49.9 - 7793 - 38:44.7 - 1:22:48.9 - 2:58:46.2

Works for me but only on the 500m sprint, no need to rate that high otherwise.johnlvs2run wrote: ↑February 21st, 2021, 9:31 pmThat could be easily resolved by using a metronome.

Re: Rate Capped Event
I have done a 30 mins r20 this week and took around 610 strokes. If a photo of the result screen was uploaded it would show the stroke rate of 20 in this case. Ok - there might be an element of trying to go for 614 strokes deliberately but why not, all entrants would have that option. Minimum 40spm rate would be hard going - dont think I could do that for more than a minute tops but 35spm and over would be better for me.

Re: Rate Capped Event
You really cannot run a rate capped event without ErgData and the stroke counter because I have had a stroke count as high as 630 and it will still show 20spm as your average on the monitor. Its rare but there have even been instances where the PM3 and PM4 showed still 20 when the actual was over 21spm. Worst ever from memory was 21.2spm when I compared it to my home made counter running off the slide. The monitor clearly just somehow does an average of the rating at the end of your splits as opposed to doing an actual stroke count and using the total time. Two Pudding Kid wrote: ↑February 28th, 2021, 5:08 pmI have done a 30 mins r20 this week and took around 610 strokes. When you upload your ErgData result to the Concept 2 online Logbook it also shows the total stroke count and the drag factor from the row so it would be pretty easy to run a rate capped event from this. You would simply have to pre-determine an exact cutoff in the total stroke count for it to work.
I have been waiting years for Concept 2 to come up with some new events but they just keep going with the same old thing year after year.
Its about time they started an "ErgData Challenge" or two each year using only uploaded data from ErgData for those of us that want to enter a verified rows only event.

Yes just ONE Challenge like a combined team challenge with also an individual leader board each year for total distance but make it ONLY entries in your logbook with either ErgData in iOS or Android. Open public visible Logbooks for those with a Logbook login for duration of the Challenge.faach1 wrote: ↑March 1st, 2021, 3:22 amHave you got any specific events you’d like to see Carl?Carl Watts wrote: ↑February 28th, 2021, 11:35 pm

There would be nothing wrong with a "30R20 Challenge" once a year as well in just an individual age groups event and an overall standing but the same applies, ErgData only with a 614 stroke cutoff limit or even 600 stroke limit, doesn't really matter as long as everyone is aware of the rules before they row and start complaining theirs was 601 and why doesn't it count. This could only be implemented using ErgData and using the total stroke count field in the data thats uploaded.
The 30R20 doesn't even need to be a monthly challenge it could just be for the whole season. Concept 2 just pulls it out of your LogBook results and puts in your best so its more like the Rankings but ErgData verified only.
Really I have just been asking Concept 2 for some alternative event for years now using verified only rows but it never happens. Its just a bit annoying that C2 came out with the verification system in the PM3 in 2003 and has never really fully utilised it. I notice the PM5 has the "V" button clearly marked and it throws up your code. Its about time C2 started using it in more events.
Good luck getting it implemented, I will certainly join up each year.
