Happy Valentine's Day to all the Lunies!!




Shaun, aka Norma, ergs a palindrome just about every day. They vary in length, but often she finds one like 17,771 that she hovers on for awhile. Thus, when this pattern abruptly changes, I start looking for what the significance might be...is it a new personal record? Is it a rounding up to a different personal record? And SOMETIMES I just make it harder than it obviously is. Today is no exception. 21,412 m...clearly a celebration of Valentine's Day in a palindrome...but I looked to make sure I wasn't missing a different factor...

Meanwhile, here in Frostbite Falls (with a nod to Rocky and Bullwinkle), it's working it's way through the minuses...from -8 this AM to its current -1 F. Still, I am reminded of two movies: Eight Below, and The Day After Tomorrow. Save some books.

Hello Lunies

Quick question, how much is a used Model D worth? It is in good shape, 10 million mieters and it has a PM5?

What are you going to replace it with? Inquiring minds want to know if there's a bike erg in your future...or ?

I was moving to a place with rowing ergs already. Decided to keep it for now. If the gym allows easy access during Covid, I may sell it. I would like to get a Ski Erg at some point as well.

Concept2 is rarely one to let too much lag time creep into the schedule! While we've had three different Challenges going on simultaneously at times here in February (Tour de Ski, Military Challenge, and Valentine's Challenge), March will bring us only two...but they are behemoths! There is the month long Mud Season Madness Challenge, and then...the World Erg Team Challenge! Naturally the March Challenge season brings out the Irish in all the Lunies!



Congratulations to Jantuut and Patrick Hmr - they've both recorded entries in the week 3 segment of Tour de Ski - that's the 2,000 m trial.

I might try to get back on the rower this week. My left elbow isn't 100%, but more often than not the two impacted fingers on my left hand aren't numb. Maybe some careful rowing will help me here.

I didn't really post about it, because it was slightly stupid on my part to let it happen. I have some inflammation in my left elbow that is impacting the median nerve. It started happening the last few days of the challenge - but I wasn't going to let anything get in the way of capturing the #1 spot. Oh well. It's slowly getting better!

I didn't really post about it, because it was slightly stupid on my part to let it happen. I have some inflammation in my left elbow that is impacting the median nerve. It started happening the last few days of the challenge - but I wasn't going to let anything get in the way of capturing the #1 spot. Oh well. It's slowly getting better!

I also have a tendency toward inflammation in my left elbow (old injury). It was very rare for it to be aggravated by rowing but I always wear a compression support on my left elbow when I row just to make sure I don't aggravate it. But I also once had something similar to the fingers thing you describe in my right hand. The pinky and the ring finger of my right hand starting going numb during a row. I diagnosed it as something impinging on my ulnar nerve. I could not account for why it was happening all of a sudden, but I found I was able to stop it from happening by wearing some weight lifting gloves. That stopped the numbness in my fingers, and no problem ever reached my right elbow, although the ulnar nerve would go through my elbow and up to my armpit. I haven't experienced that problem since that time, but I still wear the gloves - and haven't tried to figure out if I still need to.

Ulnar and median nerve compression for long distance cyclists (no matter if the bike is stationary) can lead to some long term issues. Whether it's the angle of your neck while you ride, or leaning on the handlebars as you get tired, or hunching your shoulders because you're tired...it can sure happen. Just one person's opinion, but you might want to get this checked out simply because if not treated appropriately it can be something that transitions into a permanent issue (even if it seems to be getting better).

I hope your recovery is steady and sustainable. Kona2 has a point. Taking advice from a competent physician makes sense. You are young and have many active years ahead of you provided you don't do any irreparable damage. You might also want to look for a first class trainer. I can bear witness to the benefit: Still kicking at 78. If you lived near Oak Park, where I spent most of my adult life, I could recommend a trainer I found at FFC, an excellent athletic club. But Elgin is a bit to far. Anyway, Good Luck for speedy recovery.

Hope all our teammates in Texas (and we have many) are weathering the storm and its below freezing temperatures. I see posted meters from some, and know they are at least warm enough for erging. So many people affected by the power outages. We had cold cold temperatures here, yet never lost power. There is a macabre point when you realize that you as a human are like other animals in a giant refrigerator ... and that as your body temperature starts to fall, you could freeze. I will think about this the next time it seems cold. Perspective.
