I don't know why, but I had an urge to do an FM. I expected a 2:48 result, at best, given my recent sessions, a bad night's sleep, and a 4/10 HRV. Some days just don't follow the rule book, and I think this is a 1 minute 42 second PB.

Annoyingly I didn't have any wobbles, so I could have gone faster. I really expected it to get messy with circa 7k to go, but it just didn't happen. I didn't even want to stop, and a 2:43 is in my sights with some more normal preparation.

Very happy with this, but that won't last for long. I have far too restless satisfaction, and I'm trying to grab what I can whilst I'm still improving.
Good job Stu :D real strong stuff!

Brilliant work Stu. How to do this on a whim is beyond me but I guess you don't get performance anxiety that way!
Thanks Max, and yeah, sneaking up on it does really help to not get too worked up. When you're adapted to 30k an FM isn't such a big difference, admittedly getting adapted to 30k isn't exactly easy, or pleasant :D

Nice, congrats, you should do one with 100% focus and rested, you got the form to put a really sharp one in. Rating/hf look really easy here.
Thanks Henry. I will do, this was only intended as a decent workout, so now I know what's possible, I'll aim higher and try and get a 2:42 result. Rating was just whatever felt right, I didn't think about it too much and I let it, and the pace, drift up and down.

Wow, that's a very strong PB mate!
Can't say what's more impressive, being almost 2' faster or the fact that there's still a good bit more to come!? Big congrats! :D
Thanks Martin, I'm already thinking about how much faster I can go!!

Nice Stu, plenty more to come when fully tapered etc.!
Thanks Freddie. I don't seem to respond that well to tapering, but I'm unusual in lots of ways.

Great PB inspite of adverse circumstances! Interesting in light of your HRV being so low. I still wonder if what side of the ANS you are on makes a difference?

Thanks Eric. It was on the sympathetic side, and it does seem to be more concerned when it's on the parasympathetic side eg a 6/10 more towards the parasympathetic said lighter activity is recommended, but this morning it only said consider active recovery.

I think there needs to be some form of critical thinking when evaluating it, as it's not totally reliable but it is a good guide of trends.

First ever SkiErg 500m TT, so a default PB.

1:42.4 500m 1:42.4 326 1421 55

0:21.0 100m 1:45.0 302 1340 54
0:20.0 200m 1:40.0 350 1504 54
0:20.4 300m 1:42.0 330 1435 56
0:20.3 400m 1:41.5 335 1451 53
0:20.7 500m 1:43.5 316 1386 58

Not quite sure what to think.

Could certainly have gone a little faster, but that was only obvious once I'd finished. 200-300m much too leisurely.

I thought of going again, but that was probably not a likely recipe for success.

Feeling quite good about myself decided to do a 15k this morning and managed a new PB; :D

15k 2:11.9/500 s/m 19 D/F 122

just got into a nice rhythm during the the first 1000 and kept it up doing negative splits every 3k.

Was strapless and had foot plates as low as they good go which seemed to help.

According to Erg data my av Drive length was 1.30m Drive speed 1.75m/sec Av Force 95lb looking at these can someone tell me how these compare and what I could improve on. :?:

Well done on the PB. I've never given drive speed, and force any thought but I assume that is all governed by how much power you're generating with the leg drive and partly with the upper body pull.

Drive length is, to some extent, subjective but I average 1:45/47 on a lower stroke rate, so you need to work on your lean forward and lean back as you're probably ending the drive too soon, possibly because you're strapless?

I also row strapless, for virtually everything, but if you're not confident you will clip it short to avoid falling off the back. If you are used to it, I'd suggest that you need stronger core muscles as you can 'centre your gravity' better when these are fully engaged.

Thanks for the reply Stu. Before I lowered my feet my Av Drive length was 1.25, now my feet are lower I find it easier to return handle as close as I can.
I find at the end of the drive the handle does hit into my gut which makes me think I should possibly hold handle higher. How can i strengthen my core muscles

Ideally you want to do Pilates exercises e.g. plank variations (standard, reverse, side, 'threading the needle' etc), dead bugs, 'scissors', 'hundreds', dart. Also press ups, squats, lunges, side lunges, curtsey squats are really important as your core muscles include your glutes and a whole host of smaller muscle groups. Yoga can also be beneficial too, but that is more of an emphasis on stretch that strength.

Where I do Pilates, when it's not lockdown, has recently got a website of some Pilates classes on demand, along with quite a lot of yoga classes. If you're interested it's www.planetyogaliverpool.com and it's the On Demand option. It's £10 a month, with the first week free, and the classes are about 40 minutes long. Hayley is my Pilates teacher and she usually does dynamic Pilates in a 30c heated room for 60 minutes: it's very intense, but an amazing workout.

6km TT today. Was meant to be a rest day particularly after the 30R20 yesterday but i had no aches or pains so thought why not

24 second PB in the end and no real hiccups. Enjoying this vein of form whilst it lasts. The overall average is also better than my current 5km PB so that will need to be addressed next.

Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M

The right pace for a first ever 500 TT is very hard to estimate, so this looks pretty good, next time you now know you can start faster. Well done!
