Really pleased with this. Great talk from JD prior about not panicking when the splits increase. My training has proven that i can dig deep and finish strong so today was about trusting in that

Having said that, after a good start things started to feel impossibly hard pretty quickly. Desperately wanted to HD with 1200 to go but the emotion of failing was a strong motivator to keep going. And the plan was to finish regardless and just use this a training session if it all went south.

I was in a good rhythm throughout and with 400 to go my average was 1.35.3. so the next 400 was all about going hard to bring the average down. That in itself was quite motivating.

Glad to get this done. More relief than anything. The feeling of an HD is far stronger than the feeling of accomplishment i find so the next focus will be sub 6.19. If i can just hold the middle part a little stronger then that shouldnt be too far away.

Will continue to focus on 2km training whilst we're in one of the hottest summer months. The weather doesnt allow me to focus on anything longer, so that will need to wait.

Yes Ian!!!! We all knew you had this in you. Then the fact you stayed calm and were a little above goal pace but able to bring it down with the last 400m is just excellent. Now that the sub 6:20 is done you prob will be more relaxed the next time. Great work!

Haven't done much work at this pace lately, and didn't feel really good today, so I'm pretty pleased with this effort. Goal was 36:40, and on a better day I'm sure I can go sub 36:30. 30' coming soon :)

Very nice Martin,
With your new training plan I thought you were going to concentrate on the shorter stuff for a bit, but this a great piece, especially if you weren't feeling 100%.

Yeah, the new plan is more for short and middle, but we had great weather yesterday (+10dC) so I decided to give it a go :)

🚨 New 2k PB by 1.1s 🚨
It got a bit bitey in the middle, inner demons shouting about but pride kicked in to allow me to finish strong. Whether this will be good enough for WRICH qualification only time will tell but for today I'm happy 😁

Thx @jdmad7 for getting me to this point (more to come!) and for the pep talk. Shout out to all the boys in The Delivery Room for their support too 🙏

Yes Alex! Well done mate, and this is testament to your progress that you PBed, but there's a big chunk of improvement that you can still grab on a better day: the last 400m proves it

Wow, 627m improvement??!! Are you sure your HR monitor was working properly? That average sounds extremely low, for an effort that must have been really tough
