We do seem to have extra lightweights recently, and fast ones too, which is great! Well done guys, and stay away from the temptation to eat your way through lockdown (as I've been doing :)).

I was on a mission to unlock the Zwift 14 days in a row badge, but can now show some love to the dusty rower that hasn't been used this year yet. Hoping to get a heavy time onto the CTC board tonight, but no chance of threatening most of the lightweight scores.

Finally in the TOP 50 for the CTC. Hopefully the sprints will continue in the CTC

Currently preparing for the World Rowing Virtual Indoor Sprints in mid March, it’s a 1k. Looking forward to it, as I have never entered this competition before!

Hope all is well.

Way to go faach1!

I had another go at the CTC Mercian pyramid this morning with my own small victories.
  • Improved my time by 25 seconds
Moved FF Boat V up one place in the standings (although that might be temporary)
Did not have a heart attack (although I am sure my heart was in my throat for the last half of the 500 m interval)
We only need two more entries to float Boat VII - any type will do! (As previously noted, we are abounding in light weight rowers this round)

I still have to do an entry, so that's at least 1 of the missing 2 accounted for. Pencilled in for tomorrow night.

January CTC pretty much done and dusted. HW trickle down launched a seventh boat for FF yesterday.

Tobias Stöhr has sent the following message on behalf of Germania for their February challenge.
Germania chooses: „Old school 2k pieces“ 3x2000m, 5min rest. No restrictions.

Only 3 reps and nice long naps between so EZPZ for seasoned Pete Planners and slower but experienced 4x8’ @AT rowers.

Oops, caught with quote tags down around my ankles  What I deserve for taking liberties with HTML! Sorry Freddy for getting this so cocked up as to be ‘quoting’ you too (and in your own post!) Perhaps Mister Lawson can fix? i can’t now!

If you think of these intervals as speed/endurance, you have to sacrifice speed. Can’t do em all at AN/MAX HR altho It’s possible to start that way and induce an HD disaster.

@ Citroen: Having fun at an old man’s expense? Yes, I’m laughing.

@ faach1: Not exactly today’s news I know. Most here are very adept at choosing sustainable pace targets matched to duration of effort. Folks starting out typically don’t respect physiological limits until they get burnt. Strong sprinters are on intimate terms with their limits but are never happy modulating max power.

I'm with you on this, Freddie! I think I must do it this weekend, and just get it behind me. The only small win I can see is that you can take the time of the first interval to tick the IRL / FMMC off at the same time (although the temptation will still be there to pencil in a proper 2km test later in the month :( ).

Great effort on the CTC everyone. We were one person (of any gender or dimension) away from getting the 8th boat off the dock, which is a pleasant place to be in, and not the usual desperate plea for lightweights or ladies.

Also a fine effort on the Virtual Team Challenge - 25th place is a nice improvement off last year's 47th, and we passed 13 million metres. Looking forward to seeing how we do in March in the next team challenge.

Just wanted to say hi as I'm a new member, new to rowing and happy to contribute to the team. Been a cyclist for a long time and core/arms/grip are suffering. Received my C2 Mdl D mid December and have been working on technique and getting rowing muscles activated(i.e. sore..haha).

Starting to feel better on the rower but did first 2k early in the AM at 7:59.6 so I metered what I thought I could do on my first attempt at 3x2k. Learned I could go faster in a 2k as I got faster each one: 8:11, 8:01, and 7:52. Next attempt probably try to start at 8:00, then 7:52 then whatever is left. Any advice on pacing from veterans appreciated.

Thanks. Looks like a great team.

Welcome Rich, what rest do you have with the 3x2k? If it is 5 minutes, that is this month’s CTC. I’d reckon the pacing is around 2k + 3 or 5k - 1. Hope this helps!
