At the risk of stealing some of Ian's thunder, I managed to PB my 60 mins by 130m, and Henry & Nick were right, it is two seconds difference from a 10k PB![]()
With hindsight, I was a bit too cautious and worried about blowing up a few too many times, mainly as a consequence of my annoying habit of wanting (needing) to neg split. I didn't have the 50 minute wobble so I clearly wasn't going fast enough.
Managed to get 403,154m for the Holiday Challenge too. Apart from ultra distance training, this is massively unprecedented monthly metres.

Season goal #2 accomplished, sub1:20 HM (second goal was 14'' 100m, so both longest and shortest goal)
This effort felt absolutely great, plan was to stay at 1:54 for about 1h and then see how I feel. I had no wobble and about 10k left I felt very sure to reach the goal.
Looking back I think I could have stayed at 1:53.5 and reached 1:19:30 but that's not important, I'm super happy with this effort.
If I find a good spot I'll propably try a first FM, but then it's time for the middle and shorter distances, this improved base should lead to many new PB's![]()

I think this PB will stand for a fair while for me. Not something I'd like to repeat in a hurry. I do need to sort out my 2k now. Being frank, I'm just a bit scared of it. I can accidently stray into pb zone with something like a 5k by accelerating through the row, but I know with a 2k that it just has to be fast from the off. 6:20 would be my short term goal and I think I ought to be able to do it, but the mental side of it always lets me down.

-I do think the 1k is probably my sweet spot. It seems to be the distance that allows me to exploit my combination of strength/endurance; both of which are good but neither is "elite". Combined they are pretty good though. I am looking forward to the challenge in March. I won't be making any runs at world record then, but am excited to see how close I can be. I do intend to continue to focus on (easy) volume alongside the fast stuff though - the bigger the base the higher the potential for the top!

Be under no doubt Cam, a sub 6 2k is elite in most peoples books. Yes, most national squads will have several members significantly sub 6, but not all of them will be. And good enough to be erg competitive to a national squad member is surely the definition of elite. Great to see, keep it going...

New 100m PB of 15.0 seconds @ 64 spm. Lowest pull was 1:13.9, 40 minutes prior to this PB after I had warmed up, I did a 100m in 15.4 @ 50 spm. It is amazing how much of a difference a good first 2/3 pulls are. In both 100s the first two pulls were all greater than 80 spm, one of them was even @ 112 spm. Drag was 155 for the 15.4 attempt, and 180 for the 15.0. Sadly but expectedly I missed the LWT limit (too much food over Christmas
) and weighed 82 kg. Need to work on the aerobic side of rowing, it’s my mine goal of 2021!

Thanks Martin, I’m just glad that I’ve survived the 100m without ANY injuries, I don’t plan anytime soon to do 100s/LP again. It’s too much risk for not enough reward in my opinion.
