Yeah, I'm very curious to see what he can achieve, not only for 2k, but also (especially) 1k and 500m.
Looking at his background and his relative short rowing history: If he can go sub 5:50 2k, maybe even mid/low 5:40 and can stay (almost) as strong as he is now he may be able to challenge the current 1k WR (if you read this Cam: no preassure
![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)
), but you can estimate this much better than me for sure.
Agree, saw his 2k clip pb and that looked good, although Cam said it was very rough.
Re 500/1k, Cam said he liked the longer work more and looking at his build I can see why, to me he does not come over as typical sprinter/powerlifter. Much more a allround and even aerobic build.
Don’t know how long he is erging now, but really think he has indeed much potential. From memory, Benton also started from a gym background and was more a sprintertype which changed once he started to train with a coach. B. also tried otw rowing, but that never really worked out. Don’t know why, but could be his relative older age.
German, Olly Ziedler did manage to very rapidly get the hang of otw rowing. So its not impossible.
Anyway, just like you curious how this will go, Cam is one of the most talented guys that I have seen come up. Once before a crossfit guy did roughly the same, also pulled sub 6 in his first winter, but he stopped I believe.
Yeah, I agree he looks like an allround athlete, but he also posted that he'll go for "the short fast stuff that he's built for".
He once posted that he lost a lot of weight since his powerlifting days, a quick google search shows that he holds the Canadian Junior records for (raw) Squat (305), deadlift (287,5) and total (762,5) at ca. 130kg bodyweight, maybe even stronger in the open class
He reminds me a bit of Jason Marshall who also came with a bang, soon got sub 6 (recently sub 5:50), built like a tank but nevertheless his fitness is even more impressive than his power.
Let's lean back and see what's coming!
@ Olli: I hope he'll finally beat the 2k WR, and hopefully will try a 100% 1k someday. I saw a (german) documentary about Olli not long ago, his trainers and teammates pointed out that he's not only super fit, but also incredibly strong for a rower, perfect for an incredible 1k effort
