2021 goals

Post by robbiep » January 3rd, 2021, 1:33 pm

Now, I appreciate that this isn't for everyone, but for those of us who want to, I thought it might be of interest

Put down your (probably erg-based) 2021 targets, and, at the end of the year, we can all re-visit and see how we did

For me

On the erg :

500m - sub 1:30 (currently 1:36.3)
1k - sub 3:25 (3:32.2)
2k - sub 7:15 (7:29.9)
5k - sub 19:30 (19:51.7)
10k - sub 39:50 (41:36.4)
30 min : 7600 (7371)
60 min : 14800 (14124)
HM : sub 1:28 (1:12:38.2)
Marathon - do my first one !

Some of those are probably a lot easier to get to than others !

Road running :

Get back to sub-25 min 5k (not done since 2018)

I'll play  ......first and foremost to be Covid free and healthy!

On the erg, I'm hoping for good progress under JD's pupilage....

500m - 1:26.0
1km - 3:15.0
2km - 6:40something
5km - Sub 18:00
30mins - 8k+
10km - Sub 38:00
1hr - 16k+

Some of these will be much harder than others. Immediate target is the 1k and 2k as I am looking to try and open qualify for the WRICH in February.

Most folks do this in April. The "rowing season" runs 1st May to 30th April, not 1st Jan to 31st Dec.

That's a very good point, I'd not thought if it ! Thanks, and apologies.

Will re-visit this in a few months

I base my goals annually so i'm up for it. Who needs to be fact checked on the start date of a season!

I'd like to row 2.00 minute splits for 10 k with a heart rate of 120 bpm.

I'd also like to row 20km per day in 2021.

I'd like to break 7 for 2k.

No idea if it's possible, but the main step will be to build up a consistent base of mileage over the next six months. So that's the real target. Consistent weekly mileage with speed thrown in and occasional weights... without breaking myself.

Have you ever tried step ups? If i do step ups to the height of my knee cap - i build power quickly and safely. In fact i'm doing it from tomorrow! 100 reps total.

My current PB’s are outdated and some are training PB’s as I only started erging 4 months ago buuuut...

500m: Sub 1:30
1000m: Sub 3:05 (3:14.4)
2000m: Sub 6:30 (6:45.5)
5000m: 17:20 (18:14.4)
6000m: 20:59 (22:12.7)

Figure I’m in sub 6:35 shape right now and probably about 17:40ish 5k shape. Which probably means 21:2X 6k shape.
5’9, 25M, 71kg 1k: 3:14.4 2k: 6:34 5k: 17:46 6k: 21:46.1

* Gets the crack pipe out.....*

Right, I've no idea really. It assumes that I don't get injured and continue progressing well. I've only got just over 2 months of still slightly patchy training to base any ambitions on. So here goes:

500m - 1:17
1000m - 2:50
2000m - 6:00
5000m - 16:20
30 minutes - 8850m
10k - 34:30

I think that this would be the best I could hope for.

100m - 15.0. 500m - 1:22.5. 1000m - 3:02.5. 2000m - 6:33.9. 5k - 16:44.2. 6k - 21:00.2. 30 minutes - 8636m. 30r20 - 8538m. 10k - 35:37. HM - 1.16:06.5

Funnily enough, I have recently started doing a few (having spent too long on YouTube and calculated that 17,000 reps would be equivalent to climbing the height of Everest). Now you mention it, I can see that it should help with stabilisation of the knee.

I shall keep it up! Thanks.

Sub 7 from 7:23 is definitely possible if you put in the hard work......I did something similar when I first started rowing.....7:23>>7:16>>6:58. I followed the Beginner Pete Plan and that worked for me. Plus I was older than you so it should be possible.

Mileage alone will not set you up for the pain of a 2k sub 7 though......intervals, intervals, intervals.....prepare to suffer

That's quite funny as i had done a similar exercise but for 500m of climbing. I think knee height is probably the optimum but in the past decades ago i would go to about 10cm above. I did 40 step ups today but got bored.
