PM5 ANT+ heart monitor reconnect
PM5 ANT+ heart monitor reconnect
Hi.
I have a Model D rower with a PM5 interface. I am using a USB stick to store my logbook. I connected the PM5 to my Wahoo Tickr heart monitor, and told it to remember the monitor as it says in the online instructions. It won't, however connect automatically, and I have to connect manually every time. The option to remember the device is no longer available, which I assume to be an indication that it already knows about the monitor.
Anyone else been able to get this to work? Ideas? Thanks!

Re: PM5 ANT+ heart monitor reconnect
I connect my Polar H9 every time I row. Didn’t know you could get PM5 to remember your ANT+ HRM. I’ll look into it.
Welcome btw.

Re: PM5 ANT+ heart monitor reconnect
Ergdata finally asked me if it should save the HR monitor data to reconnect. The doc said it would do this, but it didn't for the 20 or so rows I looked for it. Then it did. No idea what changed. I always used the same bring up order. Power up ergdata (on a $40 kindle), connect ergdata to PM5 then connect heart rate belt (polar h10).
Here's the doc for remembering the heart belt. Covers ergdata, usb flash drive and logcard.
"...On the ErgData app, select Yes to, "Remember Heart Rate Belt?"
This saves your chest belt’s ID to your ErgData application so that the PM automatically detects your chest belt in the future..."

That seems odd. Also use a USB stick (but not Ergdata) and the PM5 automatically connects my Garmin HRM.
Re: PM5 ANT+ heart monitor reconnect
Not sure if it helps or not, but I manually connect and disconnect my Polar H10 each time I switch between my Model D/BikeErg/SkiErg (all with PM5 and USB thumb drives). Same with the ErgData app running on my iPhone.

I've used erdata many, many times since getting my OH1+ & that screen has never, ever come up. PM5 firmware is up to date. That screen has never come up for me either. The day after I made my comment above, my hrm has connected automatically for each row. I may have altered my start routine, although I’m not entirely sure. I put my belt on attach the hrm to the belt, lick my thumbs, wipe my thumbs on the inside of the belt, open ErgData, switch my PM5 on, click OK on my iPhone X when ErgData asks if I want to connect to the PM5, I put on my wife’s stockings and suspenders, by which time my heart rate is showing on both PM5 and ErgData.mict450 wrote: ↑December 19th, 2020, 11:54 pmI've used erdata many, many times since getting my OH1+ & that screen has never, ever come up. I hope that helps.
Anyone know how to prevent ladders?
Re: PM5 ANT+ heart monitor reconnect
Well, no wonder I'm not getting connected! I guess I'll just have to content myself with connecting manually. Besides, I can't ever get the seams of the stockings to stay straight.GreenStratMan wrote: ↑December 20th, 2020, 3:18 pm

Finally, finally, finally! Yesterday, Ergdata asked me if I wanted to save my HRM data! Why or how this happened, I don't know. One of the great mysteries of the universe, I suppose.

Re: PM5 ANT+ heart monitor reconnect
My add-on kit PM5 is only three weeks old, as is my experience with it.
Every time I row (nearly daily), I manually connect ErgData app from iPhone, and Polar H10 HR monitor, as several of you have mentioned below.
I have seen the "always connect to this HR monitor" at least 2-3 times, clicked "yes", but between my shutting off Bluetooth on my iphone for various reasons unrelated to rowing, and disconnecting the PM5 from Bluetooth signal so it turns off automatically (as opposed to 4 x Menu push), I end up manually reconnecting iPhone ErgData and HR monitor every workout anyway. The extra 45 seconds to manually reconnect gives me a sense of positive connectivity and also reassurance of avoiding between-workout battery drainage in PM5, HRM, and iPhone. it's illogical, I know.

I like them bit wonky ;o) If it bothers you, you might be wearing them back to front ;o)mict450 wrote: ↑December 20th, 2020, 5:16 pmWell, no wonder I'm not getting connected! Re: PM5 ANT+ heart monitor reconnect
Just to try something different, I reformatted my flash drive, and went through the process again. Upon connect to my ANT+ HR monitor, it once again it gave me the option to remember it. But in subsequent sessions it does not auto-reconnect. Rather it does reconnect but it does not update the display. Here's what happens:
1. Turn on the monitor.
2. Start rowing.
3. Wait a little while. HR does not appear.
4. Stop rowing, hit "menu". The PM5 saves current session to Flash.
5. Hit "connect". I get the option to disconnect the HR monitor. The PM5 was apparently connected to the monitor but confused.
6. Go back to rowing. HR shows up.

Re: PM5 ANT+ heart monitor reconnect
If your PM5 has firmware V206 or V169 or V31 (Sept 2020 version) and your phone has V1.96 of Ergdata (Android) or V1.4.4 (Apple) then write an email to info@concept2.com with details of the exact model of HR strap you've got, what you're doing, how to recreate it and why it's not working.
Re: PM5 ANT+ heart monitor reconnect
It takes time for the HR monitor to start and be detected. For example was the belt wet and definitely broadcasting, or was it dormant for the first few mins while you were warming up rowing?tinskip wrote: ↑December 30th, 2020, 9:56 pmJust to try something different, I reformatted my flash drive, and went through the process again. If you had everything working, belt broadcasting and being displayed so you know the belt was running, then you used the "hit menu 4 times" to turn off the PM5. Let it sit for a few seconds off then started rowing (to have PM5 start up and go into Just Row) do you think it would show HR or miss it ?
Any chance if you waited long enough before rowing the HR would show on the PM display ? (I have never seen a HR appear for the first time in the middle of a piece, but have never tried to force that. If you wait before rowing will HR connect?)
