Is this normal?

Post by Donovan » December 17th, 2020, 4:47 am

Bike just arrived. Makes a thumping sound every rotation. Speed or resistance makes no difference.

Support suggested making some adjustments but with no effect.

Just wondering if this is normal.

Thank you.

Unfortunately you’re one of many people affected by the dreaded knocking / clunking noise on every pedal revolution. There are literally hundreds of cases. We’re all very surprised Concept 2 haven’t remedied this issue yet. I’m on my sixth front end replacement. All mine have developed this fault within 4-6 months of use. If tightening all the suggested screws does no good then request a replacement front end under warranty.

Sorry to hear this. Please follow-up here after you contact them.

I bought one of the first BikeErg and that made me uneasy.
Issue with cranks and stem bolts being too tight and I couldn't remove or adjust.
They sorted me out pretty quickly.

@CaseyClarke...your experience, and those of many like you who have posted on the forum, actually swayed me completely away from buying a Concept 2 BikeErg. I couldn’t stand the bearings clunking or thumping.

Question: Since the issue may be a version 1.0 design issue, what will you and other owners do when the warranty is up? It’s two years, I believe. Thank you.

Frame parts is a five year warranty.

See here: https://www.concept2.com/files/pdf/us/b ... rranty.pdf

Not just a version 1.0 design issue. Still happening on the latter models. I assume a new warranty begins every single time they send you a new replacement front end.

Thanks @CaseyClarke for the warranty information. I see that frame parts seems to cover it, and maybe "resets" time of coverage after each replacement, as you mention. Still happening on latter models, okay. Thanks.
