At the risk of stealing some of Ian's thunder, I managed to PB my 60 mins by 130m, and Henry & Nick were right, it is two seconds difference from a 10k PB :D

With hindsight, I was a bit too cautious and worried about blowing up a few too many times, mainly as a consequence of my annoying habit of wanting (needing) to neg split. I didn't have the 50 minute wobble so I clearly wasn't going fast enough.

Managed to get 403,154m for the Holiday Challenge too. Apart from ultra distance training, this is massively unprecedented monthly metres.
Nice one Stu, pacing looks spot on to me and looks like 16500 not far away.

Had a crack at the 2km today. Not ideal the day after a 4 minute Time Trial and a cardiac stress test that morning but i'll be having 2 days off over christmas so thought id give it a go

Pretty much went to plan until the final 500m where i was hoping to really kick into gear but today my legs had nothing. They were searing! So Sub 6.20 will have to wait but very happy with a 3 second PB and i can enjoy Christmas now!

Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M
6:21.5 2,000m 1:35.3 403 1688 36

Congrats bud that is a fantastic effort and new 2k PB. Enjoy the festivities!

All the volume is clearly paying dividends. I'm in awe of all the HMs, let alone the time and HR you do them at.
I was (stupidly) never convinced that more metres would mean more performance, probably as I didn't want to commit more time! Now, I can't deny it's had a significant difference. My HR is weird, it takes a HM at PB pace to get close to max. It might be due to my mind training, and zoning out, acting as an analgesic?

Wow, superb Stu!! Clearly you have been waiting longer than necessary to do this 60 min PB, and by taking some more risk you would have been 16500+, but saging it always makes sence, especially when you are already knocking your old PB to shreds! :D
Thanks mate, I wasn't convinced 16400m was possible so I needed to be a bit cautious. I've felt a bit rough over the last couple of days so it really was surprising

Not all Stu! Delighted for you given all the hours you put in. It’s an unfathomable time so all kudos to you! Impressive as hell!!
Thanks mate, and trust me I think the same when I look at your 2k PB.

Woohoo, great effort Stu, well done!
And so close to 16.500, nice target for your next TT :D

And nice challenge total, I'm at ca. 360k right now, not sure if I can do another session today, but no FM for sure, so you won
Hahaha, thanks mate. I didn't think much about the Holiday Challenge until a few days ago, and then it was too tempting as I saw 400k was within reach.

I'm now thinking 16500m is possible, but that can wait for a while.

That's monstrous!! both the new hour PB and the 400k holiday challenge. Huge gains this season with the changes you have made on your program. Fantastic stuff.
Thanks mate, it's been a good four weeks. I was a bit cynical about the changes and if they were a good idea, but I'm always happy to give something a try. Going slower to get faster defo works for me.

Thanks Nick. That last 7:30 wasn't horrific enough to make me think I was going properly fast enough, but it was how I wanted it to go today. No need to get too greedy too soon.

Nice to finish the year with such a strong base, Stu! Just about time to start translating that base fitness into some shorter speed?

Thanks Cam, I hope so, but we'll see. I'm planning on doing the Endurow in early Feb (four hour challenge) but I'm looking to possibly do my 100k again.

Very cool! This Endurow seems awesome. And, I actually much prefer longer efforts to shorter ones. Despite being physically more well suited to the latter.

30 min PB today !

Old PB (22nd November 2020) 7,312m, 2:03.0 pace

Target this evening - hold 2:03 pace or slightly better, then empty the tank (if anything left) for the last 6 minutes :

6:00 1461m - 2:02.9
12:00 1470m - 2:02.4
18:00 1465m - 2:02.8
24:00 1467m - 2:02.6
30:00 1506m - 1:59.5

Total - 7371m

Very pleased with the last 6 minutes, holding sub-2:00

This does mean that my 30 min pace is faster than my 6k pace, so that's the next one to target

Thanks! Next is to take a few days to relax. Then, I will just get back to focusing on the training itself. I've been overly focused on a few goals over the past several weeks; I'm much happier when I am focused on the training process without specific goals in mind. Goals will come :)

And thanks to both Alex and Martin, too!
