I'm using a Hornet Watersports seat pad on my Model C, which makes the seat more comfortable. They have a variety of materials and thicknesses.
Glad the Hornet is working out for you. Tried their small anti slip high performance.....liked the thinness but I didn't like the wavy pattern digging into my skin thru my shorts. Also tried C2 pad....Both no bueno.. the search continues.....

I bought this, from Amazon, two weeks ago: Kohree Rowing Machine Seat Cushion for Concept 2, Model D & E, Indoor Water Rower Machine Seat Pad with Thicker Memory Foam, Washable Cover.

It's $29US, and when I first received it I thought it was thick and unusable. However, I came to realize it flattens out significantly when using it, and it stays in place by a "sticky" underside as well as straps that go beneath the C2 Model D seat. I have come to love it for its dense memory foam, and now seldom think about my buttock pain. I had previously tried all sorts of foam couch cushions, even a hard contoured "tractor style" seat, but this is by far the best that I have tried. I bought it upon the recommendation of a fellow at my gym. Just an idea, YMMV. Thanks

I use this gel pad over a folded towel. I tried cycling shorts for a few rows but stopped as it caused more discomfort than it was worth.

I bought the Hornet Watersports "X-Large" cushion for my Concept2 Model D, but found its was still too uncomfortable for longer workouts, i.e 30min or over. Then I found that placing a no-cost home-made "adder cushion" on top solved this problem.

(NOTE: The following is a variation on: "bubblewrap")

Make the adder cushion by simply nesting Amazon Prime padded poly envelopes into each other. Mine is made with 4 envelopes. Nesting was easy to do when I discovered that these envelopes vary a little in size, so I started with the widest, then inserted the next widest, and so on.

Sitting on my adder cushion with the "real" cushion underneath works well; I've had no cushion shifting problems while rowing. It also doesn't seem to add much height, maybe 1/2" more when compressed. Plus it's easy to wipe clean. And yes, a teeny bit of "crinkling noise" happens...

I recently picked up three different sizes of the Hornet pads for my wife and I to try out. They appear well made, and fit the seat properly with no slip. I tried the smallest/thinnest one this week and it does provide a slight padding with very little difference in height, but it wasn’t quite enough for my 230+ frame. I’m going to try the next size this coming week, and will move on to the “Big Kahuna” if needed. I did notice the thickest one does make you feel like you’re sitting higher off the deck. That can be a plus or minus, depending on what you need.

The thing I like about them is they are noise free and don’t slip at all, even under the heaviest intensity I can generate. These are the only pads I have tried, so they are the only ones I can comment on, but they do what they say they do.

I didn’t see a way to update my post above, so here’s my experience with the Hornet pads.

Both my wife and I saw very little difference with the smallest pad. You can feel it is slightly better, but very slightly. If you’re very light weight, it might do.

My wife preferred the grip and padding level of the medium sized one. It is here:

I didn’t get any sore-butt relief until I went to the larger one, and the padding is resilient enough to last through the session. At first I thought it raised me up too much, but it was very easy to adjust to in use. I might use a lighter one when I come down more in weight, but this pad is perfect right now.

I see C/R has a high and low version. The low seems to be the most commonly purchased, but it’s currently out of stock. I can’t really tell if one is better than the other. Does anyone have any advice on which to buy? Thanks!

Try a bath matt folded in half. Works brilliantly especially the ones with rubber on one side and fibre on the other.
