+1 on mict450 idea for using a chair...I do the same using a wooden chair from our *** DELETE - SPAM *** table.
Simply put the chair at the end of the rower, place the handle vertically through the "slats" in the back of the chair, and turn the rower handle back to horizontal again and it holds the chain. I have tile floors so the chair was sliding so I added a 30 lb dumbbell onto the seat; if I was not doing the oiling myself, I could have sat in the chair, thus adding a 175 lb dumbbell.

No idea why a word describing a room is deleted as spam, but I do the same thing using a wooden chair. Have carpeting so no problems with it moving.

You can use a bridge pin in the chain link close to the front axle to "lock" the chain in place. It is available from concept2 as part 76A for $.15. you could get it from one of the big box stores as well to avoid the $8 shipping fee (unless Concept2 waives it)
