60' PB - 16.087 (+308m!) :D

Wow, can't tell you how happy I am to hit the 16k milestone!
This effort felt unbelievably good, and with a bit more risk for the last 5k I think I could have been even faster, definitely 16100+, but 16k was the main goal and I didn't want to jeopardise it.

Conditions were almost perfect:
HRV: 10/10 readiness
erg outdoor, +4°C and a little wind
sleep wasn't that good, but not too bad obviously

That's the result I'm by far the most proud of, not because they are my strongest results (sprint distances are still much better), but because I worked very hard for it and it's not a distance I'm as gifted as for the sprints.

Fantastic Martin,
Can't say I'm at all surprised as your training has been going very well, but this is a great result.
Great consistent splits, with the afterburners on for the end.
308m is a very big jump. It doesn't get much better than this :)
Thanks Max, the milestones are always an extra mental challenge for me, even when I know I'm capable of it. This will be the last +300m for me I fear :)

Very nice Martin. I find 60 min a “strange’ distance, certainly in the cold, sometimes you can just keep going. In warmer conditions you would simply overheat. And you took it carefully looking at the last split. Certainly bit extra in the tank. Congrats.
Thanks Henry!
Very true, without the cold my HR wouldn't be as consistent as it was for the first 50' and the 16k would have been a good bit harder. Under this conditions and without the preassure of the milestone I put myself under I think 16150 could be possible right now, and a sub 1:20 HM too, but for now I'll give the middle distances a go, finish the CTC and then propably 1k and 2k.

Very good result, and I agree that this is relatively your best. When strength is your strength, a 16k 60 mins is a very tough challenge, but you have set about it perfectly: bikeerg and lots of UT2 metres, whilst still keeping your toe in the lactic water.

Very happy for you mate, you deserve this. Soak up the praise, but we do expect you to be beating it soon...

You got me wondering, and surprisingly my 60 mins was set in June! My 100k is the oldest Dec '17 and then the 1k March '19. All of the rest are set at some point in 2020.

I am now wondering if it's beatable as my HM was 1.51.5 and the 60 mins is 1.50.2. As we all know, it sounds a lot easier than it will be in reality. I'll possibly give it a go before the end of the year

Oh, forgot that! But if I remember right your PB was 16300+ when I started rowing in 2018 which was super-impressive and your strongest PB together with HM :)
Sub 1:50 pace sounds like a great target and doable for sure!

My HRV said 10 this morning so I was ready for anything! Or is it all in my head?
Thought about 10k or 30’ PB try as I’ve not done those properly yet. Decided to start with the lowest ‘hard distance’ from the PP and knocked 25 secs off my 5k PB 😃

It was only a matter of time with the huge totals you have been putting in each week and the ridiculously low HR for your UT2!
Congratulations Martin :D
Thank you! I'm still very happy today, and legs very sore

Oh, forgot that! But if I remember right your PB was 16300+ when I started rowing in 2018 which was super-impressive and your strongest PB together with HM :)
Sub 1:50 pace sounds like a great target and doable for sure!
The previous 60 mins PB was set at the gym, I remember it quite well, as I was gurning and grimacing my way through the last 15 minutes, so I'm guessing that will have been set at some point in 2018.

I have just seen a photo of Hamish Bond's recent 60r20...17,591m!!!!! With an ending HR of 143!!!

He posted similar 60r20 in Feb 19 which was 17,540m with end HR 145!!!

Apparently his max is 160, so it's another perfect example of how different we all with regards to HR, but he takes elite level to another level
