Hey all y'all - just joined the team in readiness for the Jan Virtual Team Challenge.

I'm an avid rower - started rowing as a Junior in Cambridge (UK) when I was 15yrs young ... a looooong time ago.
The sport has been part of my life ever since. I am now in my 50s, living and indoor rowing in North Texas.

Glad to have found and joined the team.

Thanks!

Okay, attempt 2 at the CTC posted. Going to have to try again. Coming for you, Sheena 😉 Rematch for that other close CTC (where you smoked me)

Little friendly competition 😊
Bring it, Suzanne! I do much better with friendly competition and our times are close so I have been silently doing this anyway :D Last month's CTC nearly killed me: my goal was 2268m to try to edge you out but instead I nearly died matching you at 2267m and felt quite green for a while

I got my first million meters in a couple days ago! 50 km in April 2019 when I bought my rower and 950 km this year since late March so definitely a pandemic-inspired achievement

Oh my gosh! I totally didn't even realize we finished exactly the same! Haha. Yeah, that pyramid was brutal...

Congrats on your first million!

Only 15 rowing days to Xmas!

List below the 21 Forum Flyers on the Holiday Challenge 100k honorbd to current date.
(21USD plus C2 matching = 42 bucks Americano to good causes plus an additional 2 bucks from FF top gun Jim Slipetz who just crossed the 200k barrier.

Cmon Flyers, let’s all get ourselves 100km for the Challenge if possible but your personal goals and obligations do come first. Row On!

Yes, mainly at 6, sometimes at 4.
The OTW feeling is definitely difficult to replicate - no doubt.

And keep going on the Holiday Challenge Neil ... I'm at 254,614m ... gave blood yesterday, so not rowing for a couple of days.
That badge is yours!

I intend to complete my 100 km - but might take me all the way to the 24th as I am just over half-way now

Waiting until I am done this Holiday Challenge to have another go at the 813m for the CTC

Am I still the captain? I assumed being away from the forum with no explanations since October 22nd might be grounds for a firing! Also, I'll try not take it personally, but Lindsay goes silent for about a week, and a search party gets sent out for him! For me? Nothing! :D

Good to see things have been going well in my absence. Welcome to the new members that have come on board, and good work on everyone for the CTC, IRL and Holiday Challenge participation. I'll pop some replies to a couple of the posts, so apologies for dredging up old ones that you've all forgotten about.

I don't know where the time went to be honest. Work (still from home) did ramp up spectacularly over the period, and training took a knock. I was spending more time ticking off Zwift challenges on the BikeErg, but sadly that didn't translate into a decent BRIC time, and I recorded my first 8 minute + in a competition.

I was always going to finish last in the 40-49 male heavies, even with someone who clearly lost 30 seconds to a technical glitch at the start, but still managed to row through me about 2/3rds of the way. Heart rate was getting close to maximum around the 700m to go mark, so I started seeing lots of 2:04s for a while, before trying to bring in some 1:43s in the last 300 metres but it was too late.

Have made a start on the Holiday Challenge, but doing a few long BikeErg sessions along the way to hit the 200km mark. Have 4 hours earmarked today for a long ride, before we go out of town for a week with no C2 access. Planning on another 4 hour ride when I get back which should help me hit the mark.

Also hoping to use the holidays to finish off some of the stats and member lists I've been updating in the background since the start of the year. A short member profile section on a website is still on the wishlist, but depends on how much time is left after the daily session drinking beer in the pool :).

Cheers
Dave

Dave, Lindsay and Jack- You do a really great job of recruiting new members. The team continues to get bigger, better and more active thanks to your efforts...and as result even more fun. Thank you for your efforts.

—Marc
Thanks Marc. It's definitely the easy part of the process - what helps is everyone else in the team participating, which attracts new people, and it becomes a self-sustaining team at some point.

Lindsay does the hardest version which is grabbing people in the physical world! My forum recruitment is easy because I'm normally on more regularly and releasing people's first posts on the forum from the queue - so can be their first reply pretty easily :).

Hi all!

Just joined as a new member. I’m very need to rowing - my Concept 2 was just delivered today. I’ll be adding meters to the Team as I learn.

This looks like a great group of knowledgeable, experienced and friendly folks, so I look forward to learning from you all.

Cheers all!

Welcome Eldar! I'm horrified that no-one seemed to respond to this post while I was absent. I think it was a busy time, and posts sometimes get washed away by a flurry of unrelated replies.

We're always keen to hear a bit more from new people, as much as you're willing to share. Where you live, any interesting sporting or other background info, etc.

Cheers
Dave

Shot for the stars and missed.
Landed on the moon though.

Rate: 2:22.8
FM complete @ 3:20:54.8

Going in to it I was thinking it was unacceptable to finished with a rate slower than 2:20. About 18k left it morphed into "I just want this damn thing to be over"
Congratulations on the first marathon, Suzanne! I haven't done one for years, but I can remember them all pretty clearly, especially the first one. I had been steadily taking on the longer and longer ranking distances, because it seemed like a natural progression each time. But that first marathon killed any thoughts about doing a 100km ever. Knee joint pain, butt pain, finger blisters - definitely seemed more than twice as rough as a half marathon.

My first one also included messing up the sports drink dilution which I'd been using for some of the previous longer rows. Got my numbers wrong and couldn't understand why I was losing power around 2.5 hours in. Had never experienced hitting a wall before, but now I knew what runners were talking about. Once I figured out the culprit, I took a short break to mix a new drink, shovelled it down and got back on to finish.

I did a second one a short while later in a much better time, and will never mess my drinks and nutrition up again :).

They used to give out glass beer mugs for finishing a marathon, so I have a few of those packed away somewhere which were nice rewards for a tough event.

Dave
