Model As don't have a monitor. They have a bicycle speedo.

However, it is possible to retrofit a "modern" monitor onto a Model A:

PM5 Monitor Retrofit for Model A

The PM5 offers wireless heart rate monitoring, workout storage to USB flash drive, and a back light.

Please note that the drag factor function will not work on a Model A.

Thank you for the quick responses. The speedometer option seems a good basic option as it allows manual recording of distance and fits in the retro aspect of the machine. The PM5 option is the most "advanced" option. I researched that the older monitors (used) can also be retrofitted with a kit from Concept2. That seems a "middle" option.

I don't think the PM3 or PM4 had an option for fitting on any model other than B/C or D/E.

What about a PM1? I may soon have one off a model B.

I checked the website for PM1 at https://www.concept2.com/service/monitors/pm1 and it says could be retrofitted to Model A Indoor rowers. Maybe I need to call concept2 to re-confirm that web page post.

The other odd thing is that the base of my rower looks like a Model B and the flywheel with bicycle wheel flaps are definitely Model A. So the previous user might have replaced the original Model A skewer assembly with a Model B skewer assembly or maybe the Model A version might be a later version that had improvements closer to Model B than the original though I could not find date of manufacture below the bottom of the chain guard mount board.

Models A and B shared almost all the same frame components. Later Model As had a skewer assembly that was virtually the same as the Model B, with the exception of the chain.

Thanks to a fellow forum member's generosity, I will be getting a used PM3 monitor early next week.

For the benefit of other Model A owners who do not have a monitor installed, I also ordered the PM5 retrofit kit for Model A for the PM3 and all the parts are exactly the same as Concept2 very smartly and for the benefit of its users maintained backward compatibility in terms of exterior dimensions for PM3, PM4 and PM5. The cost comes to ~ $70 + shipping and sales tax for model A (it could potentially be different and most likely lower for more modern versions of the rower). I have the part list breakup but am not posting it here for brevity reasons.

Concept2 has instructions of retrofitting a PM3 to a Model A here at https://www.concept2.com/files/pdf/us/m ... ModelA.pdf

Will keep everybody posted once I receive the monitor and parts and set it up successfully.

For completeness I'll also point out that there are slight differences with the PM2 (never had a PM1, so I'm not sure about that one) so if you want to retrofit a PM3-PM5 on your Model C that has a PM2 on the original support arm you either have to make some simple mods or you have to get a new arm for the newer monitor. (I chose to do the latter because the new arm was not expensive and I didn't want to risk cracking the "ears" of the original monitor arm.)
