About time I got to post in this thread again :) dedicating this session to my friend who decided to leave us last week👊

Down 1:24 since May. Body responded well today. Decided to go harder from the start to avoid having to push so hard towards the end.

If there was ever a fitting tribute to your friend, this is it. That's a beautiful row: neg splits, controlled and a very strong last 1097m. You've been threatening a massive result for a few weeks, and there it is.

My money is on at least three more PBs before the end of 2020

Posted a 10K PB about a month ago of 41:53. Played with some negative splitting today and knocked off 11 seconds. First 5k was a 2:07 pace, next 3k was 2:04, then increased the pace over the last 2k.

Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M
41:42.3 10,000m 2:05.1 179 915 26 171
8:29.3 2,000m 2:07.3 170 883 25 161
8:26.0 4,000m 2:06.5 173 895 25 167
8:23.2 6,000m 2:05.8 176 905 27 172
8:17.9 8,000m 2:04.4 181 924 27 175
8:05.8 10,000m 2:01.4 195 972 29 181

Newbie gains for sure (been rowing for 6 months) but happy with the progress.
Well done Joe, there's more to squeeze out too now you know what you can do.

I have been away from erging for almost two years, but are glad to be back. I still love the rhytm of the erg, to feel the flow, to train systematically and read in this forum. All great. However due to the unspeakable C19 most of my training is unfortunately done alone. Only good thing about C19 is lost weight (am I the only one?) and being close to LWT for the first time in 30 years! I will aim to be LWT for a HM in March...

I don't know my current level and will hence wait a little to do old standard tests, so I did the much overlooked 3 k test today. Best thing about the distance was the certainty for a PB (first trial). Best thing about the test was negative splitting and finishing 10 s faster than expected!

Started out "slowly" in 1:47 and kept pushing. Felt too good at 2 k, but luckily I managed to change it in the last 1 k. Ended out with 10:27,9 (1:44,7). Now I'm motivated to train further for my December trial - The 5 k.

I wish you all a nice December!

HM PB - 1:20:56.8 (-61'') :D

First PB in my new training room, goal was sub 1:21 and it went almost perfectly as planned. Started at 15°C and 35% humidity, but forgot to start the fan and ended at 18°C and 80% humidity which cost me some seconds for sure.
Very happy with the result, and good to know there's still a bit more possible.

Thanks Keith!
It's great to see that I built up a solid base to work with, still enough space to improve I think. You did an amazing FM, I improve my 60' and HM, who would have thought this one or two years ago

Base fitness can easily be seen as the ugly stepchild of rowing. It takes a long time to see any benefits, it doesn't feed the ego and it is all too easy to choose a pace that is too fast, not least as it will still feel relatively comfortable.

Keeping on track, trusting and enjoying the process are all essential for delayed gratification.

Full respect to both you, and Keith too, as it's not that easy to steer yourself away from what is your natural tendency, and fighting that urge to return to your 'normal'
