RowPro time to buy?

With the BF sale I am thinking it might be time to buy this. Unlike others I didn’t have issues (with 5.6 version on MacBook Pro) - i see a thread on issues so not trying to re-hash that.
As a beginner (and still out of shape) person who rows 1500m VERY gently I am still not sure to buy it. Most of the online events seemed to be 30minutes and the trading plans also seemed long (I did reach out to Peter about that and answer was I should not race these training plans but have a walking equivalent heart rate. I ran out of trial time so didn’t really explore it more and considering the price then (30% off) I dropped the whole idea.

I don’t get on very well with paper plans (thinking pete plan) it needs to be an app or something that engages me...
I also don’t like ongoing subscriptions..

Any one venture thoughts on whether there is a better option.. or if I should do this.. I would go with the multi-user option as it isn’t just me who would be rowing.

The only other thing of interest is the “3D rowing tutor” for helping with correct mechanics..

Rowing 1500m is not really going to get you into shape. You need at least 30 to 40 minute rows at a low enough intensity for you to handle, hence you see a lot of 30 minute scheduled rows setup. Even if your out of shape it should still only take a couple of months to build up to that sort of distance.

The best price I have ever seen is the 25% off special that comes up quite often, this appears to be the case for this NOVEMBER.

Its great software if you can eliminate any hardware issues you have that stop it running properly and you have a decent internet connection.

For motivation you need to row with other people online, rowing by yourself quickly becomes very boring for the majority of people. Your pace doesn't matter the rows should not be seen as racing all the time but training rows. We have training rows setup for 4 times a week, anyone trying to "Race" the whole week is noticeably absent before the week is finished.

Its unfortunate that there are not enough "Leaders" who purchase this software and either don't row online or wait for other people to setup online rows for them to join. Setup your own rows online if there is not one scheduled already at a time that suits you, its quite likely someone else will join up.

Thanks! Yeah I wasn't sure (since I am not overweight, quite the opposite) if the slow steady state rows are best for me or more interval/fast ones.
The offer is actually "Get the new RowPro 5.7 at half price" so significantly cheaper!
(I don't have any issues with running it )

Sounds like a great deal to me.

I try and stay a few versions behind these days. If its not broken don't try and fix it. Version 5.5.1 is still stable and will continue to use it for now.

Do you happen to know if the dual user (being 2 license keys) - require 2 computers or can both keys be used on one computer?
I would email RowPro support but doubt I would hear back by the end of the promotion.

There's a FAQ at https://www.digitalrowing.com/Support/faq.html for that question.

A separate RowPro product key is required to run RowPro in each computer. Within one computer, the number of RowPro users is set by the product key used to activate RowPro.

Home User plans are available for 1, 2 or 5 users, and Crew and Club plans are available for 20, 50 and 200 users. Digital Rowing can also make special licenses with more users if required - please contact us.

Thanks! The order page is a bit confusing - seems to indicate there are 2 keys provided in the Dual license with each key providing 2 user access. The FAQ should specifically mention the names /(DUAL in this case) license and somewhere it should say how the keys work. They could have worded it better.. that’s why I ask questions here.

I will toss in a few thoughts from a slow rowpro user and fellow floridian.

1. Rowpro is fun. Sure most folks are much faster than I am, but it can still be fun to row with others. I typically opt for the timed rows rather than a set distance. I have no interest in making folks wait 10 minutes for me to finish a half marathon. However, most timed rows are 30 minutes. If you cannot yet row 30 minutes, you will need to build up to this not just for rowpro, but for your general rowing training.

2. I tried the Rowpro training plans when I first got the software 3 years ago. It was pretty customizable. If that is what you like, I suspect you could set up a plan to your satisfaction. I quickly realized I did better following the beginner Pete plan.

3. Don't get your hopes up for the 3D rowing tutor. Basically just a gimmick to show you proper rowing technique. Really much better illustration and instruction available on Concept2 videos and youtube.

Rowpro does send your data to your Concept2 online logbook.

Oops I see I didn’t provide context sorry.
I meant the training plan - I have to row within that context, I can’t go do an online row (oarbits) and have that “count” as a training row.
So if I do a beginner 14week training plan - do not row outside the plan - I can’t row online.(for 14weeks!) if I do I have increased number of rows and therefore changed the plan.

1500m for sure, probably more.. so 9-10minutes.. I did 2000m once but I think it was not exactly SS and I have done even some longer timed rows... I think 30mins will be doable within... months... maybe weeks.. I hope...

Shoot me a message when you get up to 30 minutes and want to give rowpro a shot.

You could also just join any of the 30 minute rows available online and just row at your own pace. 10 minutes active with a rest then repeat until the 30 minutes is up.
