We have arrived at Reindeer Season! Lunie teammates have already generated almost 200K m towards the Challenge, with Johan leading the reindeer pursuit with 84K meters. Just as a quick refresher, when you reach 100K Holiday Challenge meters, you claim your reindeer, and will have earned Concept2's virtual $2 towards the charity of your choice (from those on the C2 list).

Happy Thanksgiving! Today is a great time to earn your meters, and offset some calories....it's either that or get out your buffet pants with the elasticized waistband. Horrors, as Minnie would say. Wishing each of you all the best.

My first Winter Challenge was in 2009 and I've erged in every one since. With my personal Concept 2, for the first time I was able to get workouts done on Thanksgiving Day. A LOT has changed since 2009. I now work out with a "virtural coach," Shane Farmer through his you tube channel "Dark Horse Rowing." Honestly, many times I've wanted to give it up midway through an erg but Shane's motovation/coaching through those You tubes, he has pushed me on.

At 68 I can tell I don't have the strength/stamina I had 10+ years ago but you learn to work with what you have. Since I've been "working out with Shane" I'm again hitting split rates in the 1:50's for a little bit.

Ever a Luddite, I've joined the 21st century and have downloaded the "Ergdata" app to my phone so I can effortlessy send my workout data right to my logbook.

Just thought I'd pass this information on hoping it might help and inspire....

Ho-ho-holiday!! Day 2 of 29....and we're rockin' it !!

Fortunately, erging is an excellent antidote to buffet pants! Taking a cue from the meter totals posted, there were a LOT of us Lunies who worked hard to offset feast day intakes!!

Brickman's surely right...a lot has changed since the 2009 Holiday Challenge...starting with the sheer size of the virtual community! There were early years where getting 5,000 participants in the Holiday Challenge was a great accomplishment...and more recently, we've topped 20,000 participants in the entire Concept2 universe. So far, we have 15,008 participants worldwide who have signed on with a race towards the finish line of Christmas eve. Adam notes that we have a long way to go to get to our nearest star, Proxima Centauri...and such travel would be tough even if we were to enlist the aid of all of the Concept2 universe. One day, though, we will master light speed travel.

In the meantime, we've added some returning teammates: Chuck B, Jane, Noelle, Victor, and Dave H bringing the total number of Lunies on the roster to 161 ! Really good news!

Good luck with the challenge, hopefully I'll get some metres in. Had some surgery 10 days ago (nose reconstruction, see link below) so no rowing or kayaking for another week or so. Mind you, these days we are travelling regularly so the ERG tends to collect some dust up in the shed while we are away, but the kayak(s) generally travel with us.
