Feeling buoyed by the 2k thought I’d give half that distance a try. Only had a 90% effort at it before. Reckoned with my 500 and 2k times then 3:10 was achievable. But, just like Henry, I was out :lol:

Pleased with this one as it beats my times from when I was young and strong and fit (3:12). Not bad for 30 years older and 15kg lighter. If only I had some technique back then!

Apologies - 'HD'd' ?

Another acronym query too - I see 'CTC' in the training thread occasionally, any idea what that means ?
HD= Handle Down ie quitting.

CTC= Cross Team Challenge. There are quite a few virtual indoor rowing teams, and we all compete against each other on a monthly basis, with different teams taking turns to choose a challenge.

Well done Robbie. I HD'd on a 5k attempt a couple of months ago with only about 500m to go, so I know how hard the final stages can be.

Very good work pushing through the pain and loathing.
Thanks.

HD'd is Handled Down. The pedant in me baulks at the poor grammar.

CTC is the Cross Team Challenge. There are monthly challenges and you need to join a team. Many of the forum participate as do some legendary ergers, including Pete Marston (he of the plan).

Thank you both

I'm in the 50+ team. They obviously have low standards, they'll take anyone !
Looking forward to the Holiday challenge - hoping to go past 200k, but I'll take anything over the 100k mark. Work 5 days a week on 10 hour shifts, and I've managed to sign up for a night trail running HM on 12th December too.

5k PB today. Did a better job of keeping the rate high than I have been lately. Really struggled to stay consistent on the splits through the middle, saw a lot more 1:39s than I would have liked, but I made up for it with a strong last 1000m.

Undid straps, lay on floor. Dog came over to see what the hell was going on !
Great job! That feeling to meet and break a goal no matter how slight is what it’s all about right? Onto the next one!

A while ago, despite regularly doing 10 miles on a Monday morning, and having done erg ultra distance training in former years, I would struggle getting past 18k. There's something about getting past 15-16k that seems to be a fairly constant issue for most of us. You've proved me wrong on this :wink:
For me on this one the hardest part was around the 10k mark because that’s where it’s a real go no go decision point... this time i felt well enough I thought I could keep the pace til the end. And this time when I hit the 15k I was thinking well I’ve been going too slow to hit a 1 hr PB, might as well give it all I’ve got to try and finish the HM... other times I’ve tried for the HM I had stopped around 10k... but once I got to 15k it was kind of like you’ve already gone this far so just finish it out come what may. But it was hard! Not looking forward to the next time...

As you will know from your running, mindset is key for these. Next time won't be quite as hard, and you know you can do it, so you have a positive memory to draw on.
