Hi everyone- Finally completed my first HM today, so by definition a new PB! My announced goal has always been to do a HM under 90 min, but my secret goal was to do it with a sub 2:00 pace.... and I was successful at that, so I’m pretty happy with the result. I targeted 203w the whole time and was pretty consistent. It really helped that I got some pads for the seat a couple weeks ago after some helpful comments from the forum, so thank you all!

Very good first HM. What was the longest distance you have done before now?
Thanks for all the kind words everyone. The longest I have done previous is a one hour piece, which I’ve done a couple of times. I used to train for running ultras, so I’ve got experience doing long endurance work, but it definitely affects the body differently on the erg! Maybe some day I will think about longer erg distances, but baby steps...

The mental fortitude will have helped, but it doesn't add that much when you're not used to the distance.

A while ago, despite regularly doing 10 miles on a Monday morning, and having done erg ultra distance training in former years, I would struggle getting past 18k. There's something about getting past 15-16k that seems to be a fairly constant issue for most of us. You've proved me wrong on this

Another PB !

After PBs in 500m and 1k on Saturday, 30 min on Sunday, yesterday was a rest day

Can I break the 20 minute barrier for 5k ?

19:59.3 - 5000 - 1:59.9 - 23spm
3:59.8 - 1000 - 1:59.9 - 24
3:59.5 - 2000 - 1:59.7 - 23
3:58.5 - 3000 - 1:59.2 - 23 (possibly a bit too close to the edge)
4:00.3 - 4000 - 2:00.1 - 24
4:01.3 - 5000 - 2:00.6 - 24

With 800m to go I was seriously blowing up. Took 300m a bit easier (2:05-ish) to recover a bit, go again from 500m hoping I'd be able to bring it back and get under target. Managed to get back onto pace with about 80m to go.

Final time : 19:59.3. 4 PBs in 4 days !

Undid straps, lay on floor. Dog came over to see what the hell was going on !

Feeling buoyed by the 2k thought I’d give half that distance a try. Only had a 90% effort at it before. Reckoned with my 500 and 2k times then 3:10 was achievable. But, just like Henry, I was out

Pleased with this one as it beats my times from when I was young and strong and fit (3:12). Not bad for 30 years older and 15kg lighter. If only I had some technique back then!

Very nice, Tony. Very good time at a tidy rating too. I think you might still be strong and fit. Two out of three ain't bad. Well done on the 2k as well. Are you going to address the pesky 0.3s and 0.6s?

Well done Robbie. I HD'd on a 5k attempt a couple of months ago with only about 500m to go, so I know how hard the final stages can be.

Very good work pushing through the pain and loathing.

Not happening ! Tomorrow is a run day, and Thursday onwards it's the holiday challenge, so lots of steady pace rowing between now and Xmas.

I'm sure I'll PB on the 10k / 60min during the next 4 weeks anyway, it's 2:06 or better for the 10k, 2:07.4 or better for the hour.

But the main thing will just be on endurance and technique. 50k per week means only 1 interval-type session realistically.

Thanks.

Apologies - 'HD'd' ?

Another acronym query too - I see 'CTC' in the training thread occasionally, any idea what that means ?
